Yeah as an over-the-road truck driver, but I have my own authority. The only thing that article was anywhere correct about was company pay…
Truckers are highly regulated, we have electronic logs we can’t drive. Over 11 hours in a 14 hour period I have to take a mandatory 30 minute break… which I honestly hate but I digress.
I dunno what to tell you that it doesn’t line up with your personal experience driving trucks, but the data shows that most truck wrecks are caused by the driver being fatigued. You guys should 100% be getting paid more and not have to work so hard that it could cause accidents, that is crazy.
That’s because they chose to drive tired and didn’t pull over the vast majority of trucking jobs is single operators and or less then 3 trucks…and those numbers are a little suspect but I digress.
Of course, fatigue can be a contributing factor. But only accounts for, as the report states, 30-40% of wrecks.
That doesn’t account for the remaining 70-60% which, if memory serves, is a higher percentage than 30-40%.
And fatigue can be caused by many factors including not getting enough rest at home before going out on the road (this is, IIRC, what happened in Tracy Morgan’s accident), undiagnosed medical issues such as sleep apnea (which is tested for regularly), alcoholism, drug use, diet, etc. However,
But for someone to say, or at least imply, that the trucking industry isn’t strictly regulated to protect not only drivers but idiots in four wheelers, is patently false. And what you described is more reminiscent of the industry during the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, and into the early 90’s.
And even during the height of covid, these regs remained in place. In fact, there has been only one time IIRC that those regulations have been fully lifted and that was for hurricane relief efforts. And those regulations were only lifted on a case-by-case basis if the driver was volunteering their time to deliver relief.
Probably because you’re getting paid by the mile, and that pressure causes people to not pull over because they want to get paid more. That should not be the case, truckers are the backbone of our economy and should be paid a good wage upfront while working in humane working conditions, and those companies should be hiring more truckers to make up for that instead of milking people’s lives for profit.
It’s a flu virus. A strong one. I’ve never had the COVID19 jab. Was sick (flu virus) once this last winter. Got over it just fine. Average to good healthy people have over a 99% chance to live through it. So why take the jab if you don’t know what’s in the jab? Especially since you have over a 99% chance to beat it.
I’m 75 and in poor health and I couldn’t car less about the so called COVID19.
See this is where you don’t know what the hell you’re talking… there is a plethora of companies that pay on salary believe it or not… or pay a percentage of the load…and some even pay hourly
Well they’ve changed the rules so much it used to be a 10 hour break then you can only drive 8 hours it seems like every five years they change the rules.
Crap like this never ends on these forums. The OP always takes the flag / punishment or gets the flag removed then deeper down the two political sides just start taking pot shots at the opposing side. No one is ever going to change their stance.
