Covenants are easily switchable. It's only challenging to get back into one

I personally think that this is a good compromise for both sides of this argument. Easily switchable the first time you go into them so that you can wait for any guide or some other such thing that you may look at for the BiS stuff, but if you try to come back into a covenant that you left, you’d have to struggle a little bit to earn their favor. Seems reasonable to me personally, as I doubt the covenant’s are going to get randomly better/weaker or be nerfed and buffed every week :P. |
I just wanted to say this to inform people because (I could be wrong IDK) It seems that people do not know about this idea they have in mind.

From a story perspective I thought it was really cool how they put it. You broke an oath with your covanent so you have to earn that respect back. I don’t usually like Ions words, but I liked this haha.

same here! I personally am all for the Covenant system, but this change should hopefully make the min-maxers feel a little better.

I also learned that we can change are soul binds very easily, super happy about that too. I’m really excited for this expansion, I haven’t been this excited for an expansion in a long time.

I mean, I’m always happy to play more wow but never sooo soon before the launch.

So the path is now all the other covenants, then end on the one you actually want?

I havn’t been hyped for an expac since Legion tbh. and I only started when I had starter edition at the very tail end of WoD XD.
They said soulbinds would be easily swappable at blizzcon though, and have been saying it a ton. It’s really weird that NO ONE seems to recall this T^T.

first day im gonna join then leave all covenants to see what happens

As someone who was very much for Covenants being difficult to swap, that is a really cool compromise and I support it 100%

Well it goes like this, since I’m not too sure what you’re question is
Now because of you, I’m just dumb so indulge me ^^"

Basically from 50-60 you get to play with all the Covenant Abilities in their respective zones, so you have an informed choice for level 60, where you choose the covenant you bind yourself to.

Let’s say you choose Night Fae, for aesthetics, power, playstyle, whatever reason, and you end up not liking another aspect of it and want to switch.
Ian has said that switching is gonna be easy as heck. The hard part is when you decide to head to Kyrian but then miss night Fae so when you try to go back to night Fae, you’re gonna have to build up your respect with them again. You get what I mean?

Right, but are all rewards for those covenants locked to those covenants?

Crazy to think no one else publicly thought it up. It looks really obvious now that I think about it.

Whatever the system is it’s going to be very player unfriendly so that they can milk the time played out of us. If they wanted it to be player friendly they would either make it easy to switch or give a free Covenant switch every time that they change something about the Covenants.

Very likely to be that way. Until someone asks about that, we don’t know for sure.

If you haven’t seen Taliesin’s solution yet. It’s honestly the best solution/compromise I’ve seen about the Covenant ability switching problem.

But it is easy to switch, the hard part is switching BACK. Which means, you’ll be able to try every covenant back to back till you find something you like, but going back to a covenant you already left is gonna be hard. I doubt it’ll be a years worth of hard, but hard as it should be.
Also, I doubt they’ll be changing too much in the covenant’s that’ll be extremely significant, since they’re live on Alpha so early for testing, they’ll have a much better idea at how the abilities work, feel, and look. And assuming there is a beta, which is likely, the numbers tuning will be there and that means we should have a decently balanced abilities, soulbinds, and the like.

I don’t feel that every grind in the game is player unfriendly, especially when you are able to go back on your choice very easily a few times before you HAVE to settle on a last choice. And you’re making an incredibly informed decision so I doubt that you’ll feel cheated if you don’t like the covenant you end up joining in the first place.

I think it’s just that I’ve played WoW long enough that I can see that current Blizzard won’t bother with your idea because it doesn’t pad playtime stats for them.

Oh this post isn’t my idea. It’s Ian’s. They said this is something that they wanted to make happen. But I get the doubts you have and you’re justified for having them.

I’ll believe it when it’s actually there at launch “something they want to make happen” sounds like “preorder Shadowlands because we’re giving you hope”

I love this and the logic behind it.

Also Ion seems more relaxed now. Is it just me?

Completely fair judgement. Let’s both hope that this proposal makes it to live. If you want the interview where Ian said this, I can link it if you’d like.
