Could WoW players function without addons?

True, but no where near the level of what’s recommended today.

Addons are fine, and not going anywhere.

Addons? In my FF14? I am aghast! I was told it does not happen in the land of weebs and rainbows.

If addons were banned, Blizz would just design less complex fights so it wouldn’t matter.

And at least in content thru M+15 and Heroic Raiding, they’re not needed to begin with. Idk about Mythic Raiding and bragging rights keys.

I know Weakauras in particular extends way beyond what an addon should be allowed to do, but is it something high end players actually NEED? I suspect no. But I’d still like to see its functionality gutted tbh.

Makes roleplaying a bit easy.

You can find all the SavedInstances stuff in Altoholic, albeit it’s not as easy as SavedInstances at a glance for what that offers, but once you know where to find that info you only need Altoholic.

To answer OP question, it depends on what content. Using Altoholic to manage all your alts is not game breaking or changes how someone goes about killing enemies, raiding and all that, it just saves you time having to relog over and over to check all your alts.

Using something like WA and DBM, yeh no, a lot of the population could not do without those.

Once again nope. 3rd party tools are a big deal in FFXIV and looked down upon or in the do not ask do not tell area if it is just for sexy modding or looking at damage.

Once again, yes you are. You guys make one of these stinkbait threads every other day about this.

People actively do NOT like the idea. The only people pushing this are you and your fundie friends.

Considering that, from the BEGINNING, Blizz intended addons to be able to be used, and actively helped the addon designers out there (they had their own forum section) puts the lie to your whole argument.

Seriously - get help and stop with the “NO ADDONS” purity tests. Find another game that suits your fundamentalist attitude better if you don’t like this one.

Enough with the trolling.

Also, please tell your “influencer” high cultist overlord to go outside and touch grass. It’s really getting annoying.

I do not have an influencer and games should be pure and require no addons. Blizzard did an amazing job with the new UI for example, at least I like it and it is so much easier to use than bartender and its ilk.

edit: I find healbot impossible to use, I just do not understand it as an example of why I hate addons.

this is just your opinion.

(it is bad, fwiw)

and given that it’s your opinion, why are you here? go play a game that is “pure” (serious eyeroll at that term)

i came in playing w/ addons so idk how to play w/o them rip

Then go find one and troll up their forums.

who cares if ‘player skill’ comes down

the real issue is that the addons make players love wow for quality of life features they can’t get anywhere else

wow has been like this since the beginning

and no we should not get rid of quality of life features and a feature that is one of the best parts of the wow experience

bliz doesn’t need to make encounters harder to ‘account’ for addons - they just need to make the game fun first and foremost

it’s ok for players to beat stuff, it’s ok for players to ‘finish’ wow temporarily

any other design goal like ‘metrics’ quickly starts cannibalizing player value and player enjoyment in search of grind goal metrics which correlate directly to cash shop buys

Why?

We have that option. I use that option to not use addons.
I am not against others using it either if they want to use them.
There is an Addons folder, and a site with nice addons that the community love to use, let them use it.

Because like all fundies - their opinion is the only one that counts. Therefore everyone else has to do what THEY want.

Here’s the thing about their argument.

Right now, in a game that actively allows addons, they are FREE TO PLAY WITHOUT THEM.

If they had their way - WE would NOT be FREE TO PLAY WITH THEM.

This is the difference that the influencer cultists refuse to talk about.

Not sure why people keep asking this question in all honesty.

With the new UI I have had to add at least 4 new addons to make the UI useable. Most importantly to me is being able to read the time and see the calendar icon because I don’t have a magnifying glass attached to my laptop screen.

What utterly utterly mystified me over the years is why independent random people have been able to create addons and the developers cannot seem to give these options in the game.

Some are incredibly basic, like options for the UI rather than the hot mess we have now which still isn’t usable by many people. Or TomTom, which is a godsend if you cannot memorize every square inch of the game.

I think if you’re going to ask such question, qualify what you consider an addon, because there are a whole lot of different ones with different functionality, from the dugeon/raid addons to the ones like altoholic or any of the collector/RP addons.

The game is a buggy mess as it is. I think if you killed all addons, you’d bleed even more players out of sheer irritation at this point.

So they can get “likes” from their social media hero-gods I suspect.
