Corruption

Still trying to figure out how it works. All I know is once in a blue moon my haste jumps to over 200%…it rarely happens though.

200% in PvP?

It’s certainly complicated compared to other wow things.

Basically it’s like this:
Your cloak and some new essences give you “resistance” or how much corruption you can equip without penalty.

You can always equip gear that has more corruption, but you can get multiple penalties depending on how far over you go.

For example,
I have a rank 6 cloak that gives me 20 corruption “resistance”.
I only have 1 item of gear that has a corruption affix and the game says that’s worth 15 corruption.

15 corrupt - 20 resist = I’m safe no bad effects

Now if I got a second piece of corrupted gear with a 20 corruption value

(15+20 corruption) - 20 resist = 15 extra corruption

I’m now in the penalty area. Because I have less than 20 excess corruption my penalty will be: Grasping Tentacles

Taking damage has a chance to slow your movement speed for 5 sec. The magnitude of the slow increases with further corruption.

A nasty slow effect. Not great, but I might be able to live with that.

Let’s say I get another corrupted item with a minor +15 affix and because I’m insane I equip it too.

My total excess corruption is 35. More than 20, less than 40, I now get an additional penalty: Eye of Corruption

Your spells and abilities have a chance to summon an Eye of Corruption for 8 sec. The Eye inflicts increasing Shadow damage to you every 2 sec while you remain in range. Range and damage increase with further Corruption.

On top of Grasping Tentacles. That’s going to wreck me.

What do I do?
I can use each of the new essences. At rank 1 each of those provide 10 resistance.

Now I have 50 total resistance and
(15+20+20) - 50 resist= 5 excess and I’m back in the “safer” penalty of just a mild case of Grasping Tentacles.

As I raise up my cloak rank and essence ranks I’ll get more resistance. However the really good affixes also have larger corruption values. There will be a fine balancing act of reward vs penalty.

Gear you obtain has a chance to be corrupted. Corrupted gear is similar to kiss/curse effects. In purple text on the gear you’ll see how much corruption it’ll give you (such as +22 Corruption) , and underneath you’ll see more text in purple telling you the effect it’ll give you (for example, your spells and abilities have a chance to cause your target to bleed for 10k damage over 8 seconds).

On the right hand side of your character panel, above stats, you’ll see a purple frame with an eye creeping over your panel. Hovering over that will tell you how much corruption resistance and base corruption you have. The more corruption you have, the worse the effects will get. For instance, 10 corruption or so will periodically reduce your movement speed in combat. At 20 corruption, your spells and abilities will have a chance to summon an eye of corruption that’ll deal damage to you if you’re in range. The effects get worse and worse and more severe with the more corruption you have.

If you get a piece of gear you get with high corruption and you don’t want it, you could simply have it purified, and it will get rid of the corruption but also its effect.

I have also noticed that in the lesser and normal horrific visions your get random buffs and debuffs applied to you. One of those was a mini lust effect.

Add that on top of the everything else you have and it’s possible to get a major haste boost

Yea I was in panda land
