Blizzard, you never seem to learn.
Corruption is suffering from the same mistakes that were made with legendary items in Legion in the beginning.
The whole system of it pretty much is terrible… because the only way to get corruption is RNG based.
You did the same thing you did with legendary items, you put in a few good ones with overpowered effects that everyone wants, and then jammed in a whole bunch of utter junk no one cares about and doesn’t really feel good to get that make up the majority of what’s out there… making it next to impossible to get anything decent.
You basically have to win the RNG lottery. And its another case of RNG layered on RNG. You’ve got the RNG to get an item you want and the slot you want it in, the RNG of having a socket on it, the RNG of having tertiary stats on it, and the RNG of having the right corruption on it, and the RNG of the level and corruption point cost of the right corruption you are looking for.
It’s way too much RNG.
At least with sockets you can right now put in effort to earn corrupted mementos to get sockets.
But Corruption is hugely impactful to performance.
This wouldn’t be an issue if you could balance the corruption effects and they more or less gave you equivalent performance boost no matter what they were. But you have never really been able to do well with most balancing, whether it be with classes and specs, or legendary items, or azerite traits, etc…
And that’s fine, thats your track record. If you are going to spend time doing balancing work, then it should be spent on something that’s got greater impact on things that aren’t easy to change like making sure you have classes relatively well balanced.
But stuff like Corruption? You should always put in some kind of pathway to work towards targeted end results.
Leaving something like this entirely up to RNG just feels bad. It’s not exciting, it never is. You create these systems where you are helpless to help yourself other than just pulling the slot machine lever another time, and that’s just not fun. Even if you do finally get something decent, its not exciting or fun, it just finally feels like misery that’s over after such long and frustrating waits.
So please stop with the RNG only methods of gaining things like this. Give players some agency in terms of helping themselves to target the things that help their performance. You finally learned your lesson on the legendary items towards the end of Legion. Why did you not learn that for something like corruption?
The reliance on RNG only systems like this just feels lazy on your end and constantly incredibly disheartening. We know you aren’t really going to be able to balance things all that well, so just give us a break and let us try to target the things that are impactful.
