Correct Way to Say Y'Shaarj

Who is we?

Yeah, I think yuh-sarge or yuh-sharge makes sense, just based on the pronunciations of other old gods.

I mean, C’thun is Cuh-thoon and N’zoth is Nuh-zoth, so if you follow the same rule, then Y’shaarj should be yuh-sarge/yuh-sharge.

Yah-sha-raaj

I say ‘Ih-Saarj’.

There’s a lot of Norse influence in WoW, and, for example, Yggdrasil is pronounced ‘Ih-ggdrasil’, so I assumed Y’shaarj was the same.

They also worship us and try to sacrifice us to their dark gods… which I found both flattering and hilariously ironic: “Wakener, we idolize you, you are our savior, now sacrifice yourself for our glorious new empire!”.

I mean, I guess for an insectoid society that makes some modicum of sense? Ants and bees sacrifice guards, Mantises and many other insects and spiders eat the male or female of a pairing when done, etc…

Thank you for going through the effort to pull the actual voice clips of people pronouncing it.

As it was put elsewhere:

All we get from these “canonical” posts is that the writers themselves can’t pronounce the names they come up with.

Day[9] - Y’Shaarj Pronunciation

Y’Shaarj reading this thread: “Why do they have so much trouble pronouning my name? Its pronounced “Jeremy” guys, come on!”

“Yah-Sha-raj”… Bellular should be ashamed of himself and his butchering of Y’Shaarj’s name. It’s Yuh-SHAARjuh. Like charge but with an S.

Yah-Sah-Raj is the only way we’ve heard it said in-game by Wrathion.

But i always end up saying Yah-sarge

I didn’t trust Wrathion then, I don’t trust him now. Nor his pronunciations!

It’s a fantasy name for an eldritch horror based on Lovecraftian mythos. It doesn’t have to obey our phonetics, and it doesn’t. Try and pronounce all the nonsense that faceless ones and Ilgynoth say over the years.

It’s “Yah-Shuh-Rahj.” Kil’ruk the Wind Reaver pronounces it when you reach Exalted with the Klaxxi and get the bonus RP walk.

Y share?

As in “why should I share the last pudding cup?”

The point is that the old gods are based on lovecraft, unknowable alien creatures that most of the time don’t know that we exist, let alone care for our culture and beliefs. Of course how their names are spelled and pronounced clash with our preconceived notions based on our own understanding.

All languages are made up and the rules change with the wind.

Because I’m a panda and your refusal to give up the puddy cup is endangering me. Do you really want that on your conscious?!
