I don’t think it’s fair to copy over toons that have moved on to tbc servers
back to classic (whichever way they discussed, paid option, etc.) without consequences. When you copy over your characters Classic/tbc you should be given a choice… that choice is “What would you like to take with you and what would you like to leave behind?” (excluding bops and stuff which will certainly get transferred).
Example, My classic toon has 200k gold and over 200k gold worth of stuff in my bags/bank. When I transfer/copy my toon back to classic (using some method) I have to choose what I’m willing to give up on toon. I choose 120k gold and half the items/pots/etc. in my inventory… NOW after the copy my classic toon has 80k and 1/2 the items/pots/etc. I had and my TBC toon has 120k gold and the other 1/2 of the items/pots/etc. from my classic toon.
This is the best way to do this or you will see lots of economical issues occur in both games.
Personally I think char copies should only transfer with their bops/tradeskill levels/2000g max, but that’s just me.
If it costs $ to copy over characters then it is even more unfair… bcuz we paying the same price but some are getting way more out of it than others.
GL all, smartest person in the world signing out.
Ladies and gentlemen…we got him.
No one is copying anything over to BC servers, though. The current Classic servers are being upgraded to BC Classic, and players are being presented the option to transfer their existing characters to new Vanilla Classic servers
It’s literally how they said they’re doing it
https://news.blizzard.com/en-us/world-of-warcraft/23625673/world-of-warcraft-burning-crusade-classic-deep-dive
"Going forward, current WoW Classic live servers will become progression servers with access to Burning Crusade Classic and its content updates. On patch day, players will be presented with a choice of where they want to play their characters. Do you want to continue into the content of Burning Crusade Classic? Or do you want to continue to experience WoW Classic?
You’ll be able to make a choice for each of your individual characters. This provides players a way to pick and choose the experiences they want to have, whether it’s with journeying into the next expansion with a max-level character that’s ready to go through the Dark Portal or creating a new draenei or blood elf to experience the new starting areas, or if it’s a mid-level character staying with the Classic Era realm to continue their progress and play with friends there.
…
If you decide to continue playing WoW Classic , you’ll be able to play on Classic Era realms, which will launch at the same time as the pre-expansion patch for Burning Crusade Classic."
My buddies said they heard them say copy… just saying.
your buddies heard incorrectly, then
it’s almost like… people will make things up. ?

Didn’t they have a paid character copy option talked about in the deep dive? Towards the end, don’t remember a lot of information on it
Yes and no.
To clarify/correct.
They are going to copy characters, but not from Classic to TBC, but from TBC to Classic.
All servers will go to pre-patch, but you will have an options to opt out to stay in Classic — if you select that THEN you character is copied FROM pre-patch to Classic realm/segment. And those are “snapshots”.
However, there will be an option to actually “copy” the character and have them active on BOTH TBC and Classic. (paid option)
But in a nutshell (to OP), don’t think of it as trnsferring Classic toon to TBC, it’s not. It is simple “moving on” scenario to the next patch as it is on live. The only difference now is you can actually remain in Classic permanently.
And, about xfering things over from alts to main — you can have all alts move to TBC without leaving anyone behind, so there is no difference if its all on one or not.
If your classic toon has 200k gold and 200k gold of mats then I don’t think your version of copying matters or not (even tho it’s transition all or nothing unless you pay a separate fee to keep both options open) the economy is already doomed. I don’t even have 400k gold on RETAIL…
Flag thread and move on. Another person who is above reading anything and listens to his friends (realistically streamers). I don’t believe the 200k for a second and is most likely making a doomsday scenario, since he refuses to read.

i don’t either. i spent 9387492378492349238472384g on mogs. RIP.
So if u move on to TBC then copy to Classic (paid) it is the same thing I am talking about.

No, the copy that we’re talking about is a snapshot of your character on pre-patch day. If you come back to Classic after playing TBC for months, the copy you pay for is the one they made a snapshot of on pre-patch day, not your current TBC progress.
Yes, exactly… so pre patch I have 200k gold and 200k gold of mats in my inventory and bank. I move onto TBC servers with all my stuff and then pay to copy to classic. Now I have 2 characters with over 200k gold.
Basically… thank for the free $20,000 in gold/mats Blizzard.
You’ll have 200k on Classic Era server and 200k on TBC Era server, yes. Obviously, they can never be combined since different versions of the game.
The funny thing about doubling currency/materials is that the value of each gold will go down, due to inflation. So, you might have to make due with only $10,000 in gold/mats
Yea, Blizzard is sooo dumb if they let this happen. Imma be super rich on every version of the game.
Gold is much harder to get now = gold is worth more.
Miss the 70g per arcane crystal days.
From what I have read. They are not having people copy characters.
They are giving free transfers to locked in Classic servers for anyone
that still wants to only play Classic. The Classic servers we have now
are going to become TBC Classic servers. So if players want to play
TBC Classic. They just stay on their servers.
If the two can never be combined it’s rather irrelevant. It is a nice way to pay $$ through Blizzard to give people gold in classic if you do not plan to play classic. So you can be a nice guy I suppose. You’d need to have a lot of gold to make it worth it and it doesn’t benefit you unless someone else is instead giving you their gold.
This does mean they will likely never link the two versions of the game because that would be exploitable.
