I can zoom in and out on the standard map, it’s basically Mapster, right?
You seem to be getting at something. Why not just discuss the matter directly?
Talk about something that happens every single day There’s a diagram I’d love to see:
Number of threads where RPers were booted / prevented from doing any dungeon, raid or PvP content due to not having an RP add-on
vs.
Number of threads where a player was prevented from doing dungeon, raid or PvP content due to not having an add-on (non-RP, of course).
Wouldn’t hurt my feelings if they did away with addons like DBM. I just use details to see how my dps is going, and scrapper for the one click of selling junk items. Would be nice if both of these were added to the base ui.
I understand your sentiment, but I guess the devs feel like they have to achieve certain difficulty thresholds since we have rewards for various difficulties.
With the way the game has developed they clearly don’t want that difficulty to be “200% increased health, 50% increased damage” and that is all. That’s why each one typically adds or varies a mechanic to the current fight.
I don’t really see it being such an issue though, as ultimately if the player wants to they have the option to not use the addon, and outside of world first raiding (which all use addons/weakauras and thus are on equal footing) does it really matter how difficult/easy you make the encounter for yourself?
Who are 90% of the population playing against if not themselves?
Also just to clarify I’m neglecting the influence of parses as in the modern game there are much more significant external factors that govern how high you can parse than addons. Ie WF, PI, mystic touch etc
What people who rail on DBM don’t realize is it has voice cues that help those of us who have eyesight issues, and base WoW does not have that. And yeah when you are legally blind, you still need voice cues in instances.
Correct, and I stand by them. If someone is kicked or prevented from playing a dungeon, raid or pvp because they do not have an add-on, then the add-on should be nuked.
I also stand by the other part: I truly want to see the number of WoW forum threads (EU, US, etc.) where an RPer states they were kicked (or prevented) from doing any dungeon, raid or PvP content due to not having an RP specific add-on.
I would then like to compare that, to the number of forum threads where a player was prevented from doing dungeon, raid or PvP content due to not having any other add-on (DBM, Details, Raider IO, etc. ). Then tweet said results during the next interview, or when Ion mentions add-ons again.
I don’t use add-ons, I have no need for them. I prefer to play games as they are; the Konami code is the furthest I’ll go, and only for Contra. If I can’t clear something otherwise, then I just can’t do it. However, that’s rarely been an issue.
I used to raid and run dungeons nonstop, back in the day. Nowadays, people don’t want you in a normal run unless you have the newest shiny mod. And I main tank and heal, so I had BETTER have watched four hours of Youtube on the first day of dungeon access
Having said that, I know lots of players who are elderly or have disabilities, and I identify with RPers. Also, I get how some of you want to push your limits. I would like for a lot of add-on functionality be added directly into the base WoW setup, if only for you all. I like WoW players, and I wish the community treated each other better.
Addons allow people to improve their quality of life in game and allow people with disabilities to play the game and do content they might otherwise not be able to do.
Not only are anti-addon activists basically being that one person at the HoA meeting whining about what flags their neighbors display on their houses instead of simply not using addons themselves but they’re also also against accessibility tools for disabled players and that is a little bit ableist.
The only addons I think should stay in the game are the ones that change your UI. Anything outside of this like DBM, Bigwigs, anything that shows locations on the map for rare mobs should be removed completely. Let them give back the fun of exploring and looking for the story manually and working with others in chat to find this stuff.
I haven’t raided much lately, but have raided from back from MC up to this most recent content and I feel that DBM and raid addons just feel like it ruining the experience of learning the fights. Like just imagine sitting there in MC raid and doing Baron and someone getting picked for the bomb mechanic and you had no addon to say who got picked for it. That means that the person who got picked needs to pay more attention to their debuffs and then take more accountability for their actions to do the mechanic instead of having something call it out that this one person had it.
Combat addons must go, Blizzard must provide the necessary interface for combat and completely ban combat addons, now that they are changing the UI is the right time to do it.
