I have been in the process of killing people and watch them vanish and become unattackable but come back 5 seconds later to just do it again. The addon basically cycles thru groups and joins and accepts in a half second phasing you to another shard.
I used to be in the ‘stay’ camp. But more and more I’m very rapidly going to the ‘nuke from orbit’ camp.
Why? Because they allow blizz to be lazy and to do absolute garbage system designs because they know that players will fix the problems for them. Designs like frenzy stacks for BM hunter that are not shown by default on the UI shouldn’t be a thing.
If blizz doesn’t have player addons to rely on they will have to fix their garbage designs or people will leave. I don’t think they or the players realize just how bad it is overall because the vast majority of players use addons. But it’s well past time for reckoning on Blizz’s side to fix things properly. That will require some class redesign and fixing fights to have better ergonomics.
Having played other games damage meters are the least of the offenders. Raid addons/automarkers, PvP sniffers/automarkers are a much bigger issue because they prioritize information in a much more useful way that gives a distinct advantage to those that use them.
As a first step blizz should disable sniffers/automarkers in PvP and block automarkers in PvE. They should also then block access to the chat and intercommunication of addons that use combat log during combat. We can reevaluate from there.
Yes, let people fall back into their natural habitat.
I swear if people cry enough to have blizz disable details entirely and prevent people from being able to centralize own abilities/buffs in a more central location (think afenar class pack) to then allow for the actionbars to be hidden. This game will be as boring as hell.
I don’t care for the dps/damage meter in details but preventing me from tracking interrupts/damage taken from source+spell/healing/buff uptime/deaths you just give an out for people excuse insufficient play through obscurity.
And as for UI modification, everyone takes information in differently.
Now note, I did not say I would be upset if boss spell tracking, timers or even cd usage by enemy players was restricted. I can understand that at this point knowing all of that is probably forcing encounter and pvp design to be as obtuse as its ever been.
But to prevent people from tracking their own spells and party/raid actions and restrict api to that of what we see in early alpha/beta builds? That screams ludditism.
And as a clear example of weakaura I would like to go would be the decree pack people made for mythic azshara. Assigning icons over the stationary people (plus moving lone wolfs) and then giving text assignments to the people having to move but be clustered is just too much addon power for sure.
Also don’t touch my collection, gear panel/stats, bag, alt/lockout management addons.
the raids should be designed around addons they should go but some should stay like weak auras.
I like my roleplay addons stay
Blizz needs to not design encounters with add-ons in mind because it just turns it into an arms race. If add-on makers oversimplify things then break the add-ons that do with the API changes. I’d like for TRP3, MogIt, etc. to remain but weakauras while incredibly useful is almost out of control with what it can accomplish.
You could make a compelling argument for banning them from competitive play, but customization really helps Blizzard avoid a lot of headaches. As it is people lose their minds if something in the game isn’t exactly as they want it. How much worse would that be if you took customization away from individual players?
It mainly falls on Blizzards shoulders. They continue to push the fights in such a complicated way while also increasing the punishment level for the mechanics that in a lot of cases theres just no recovering from it and this is from the Normal/Heroic side of things.
We’re primarily talking about add-ons that specifically affect combat situations, not UI mods nor RP stuff, those are harmless. It would be nice if Blizzard integrated the best of those directly into the game, though. Characters should have a page just for background story and the like, and we should have surnames if we choose, as well.
Good lord! Do you just login in, and watch the screen as your toon just does stuff? Partially joking What do you do with all of that?
It’s basically everything.
Several frame addons - Vuhdo, grid2, Shadowed Unit Frames
Chat addons - Prat, Copy/paste chat (whatever that one is called)
UI elements like: Sexymap, BlizzMove (or move anything as most people use) Dominos, Details, Titan panel, Deja Character stats, Bagnon, Killtrack, Mapster, Spy
Combat Addons like: DBM, Weak Auras, GTFO, KUI Nameplates, Mik’s, Omen, Omni CC, Quartz, Range Display (if you don’t have this, get it)
Outdoor stuff like: World Quest Tab, ZM puzzle helper, Venture Plan and Cov Mission Helper, All The Things, Lightheaded, Silverdragon
Analysis tools like: Pawn, Simcraft, Raider IO
AH stuff like: Auctionator, TSM
That’s like 38. There are a bunch I don’t have turned on and I won’t list those ones, and some odds and ends. I built my UI over the years myself and I iterate on it. I like it the way it is so please dont remove addons!
There is no conversation. If you like em, use em. If you dont like em, dont use em.
there is an example of a game franchise that, elderscrolls. the modding community fixes everything that is a problem.
I have a question!
(Anyone feel free to chime in.)
Why do you use Titan Panel? I’ve never understood the appeal. (And it’s been around a looooooong time…)
You mean the QoL stuff that Blizzard should have already included?
The only addon I use is handy notes for treasures and rare spawns.
Well. One. It’s not up to us.
And Two. I’d like to see the new UI and changes before I even can make an educated discussion about add ons.
And Three. I Love add ons.
game would be trash without addons
It just has all my basic stats in front of me including latency, FPS. The mouseover dropdowns have even more info. It’s up and out of the way. I like it a lot.
Please, remove addons; I think that they only bring us toxicity among the community (i’m an hobbyist addon developer myself and I love working on them. Ironically, the most of my work I have done is in the Elitism Helper addon).
