Kind of reminds to each and every time the phrase “They were just added for faction balance!” gets thrown out regarding blood elves. Ignoring the whole context and development seems like a common coping mechanism.
There it is, that’s why my eye started twitching as soon as the idea for covenant customizations started being talked about.
night elves are nature lovers. they’re the epitome of the ardenweald races. nightborne are more scientific, if you will. less nature knowledge and more scientific knowledge, book smarts, intellectuals. they dont have an equivalent in the shadowlands as they dont fit in the gruesome maldraxxus, the dark venthyr, the holy bastion nor the tree hugging ardenweald. the closest is venthyr but the venthyr are much too dark/goth for nightborne, i think.
i designed a game idea at one point involving a factional divide based on natural or technical/scientific ability. one faction favors tech, the other favors nature. wow is somewhat like that, though they did give the horde shaman and druids, their overall theme is that nature is useful (echoes of blood elves seeing the light as a tool), whereas the alliance theme is nature is to be worshipped, as is the light. iotw, the alliance is heavy on religion and the horde is heavy on utility. nightborne are definitely in the utility category and night elves are definitely in the religion category.
As an orc I’ve abandoned my duty to crush skulls for Orgrimmar to go torture lost souls for the Venthyr.
How much tending to the elements are shamans going to do in realms with no naturally occurring elementals?
We give up our duties all the time to save the universe in wow, the people of the Shadowlands are in no better a position than the people of Azeroth if the world soul is lost to an invader and used to trigger the end of days.
The end of living people means no more anima and the end of the cycle. It’s in their interest to protect Azeroth.
EDIT: In fact, looking at the model in wowhead… the guy seems to have the same animations as a male draenei so it makes sense that he’s using a model with hooves.
I liked the psycho Barbie vibe but I’d probably be happier if they gave us black skin tones and red eyes leaving the alliance with pretty elves and horde with cool elves.
