Royal guards, throughout history, have been largely made up of parade ground soldiers. Royal guards units that are effective soldiers are the massive exception. Royal guards are usually expected to lead parades and beat up peasants, not fight on the line.

So he had to beg the humans to help.
I’d always taken it that the elves lost because they’d sort of gotten soft and a bit latter days of the Roman Empire-esque which is why the blood elves have such a militarised society now.

Yes they did. The Horde fought one major battle against the Scourge which they won.

Phrasing unclear; I was implying both elves and humans got bodied by the old horde to a significantly greater extent than the dwarves.

Does anyone know what happened with Hordemar City? Is Blackrock Mountain contested between the Alliance and Horde now that the Blackrock Clan has rejoined the Horde and the Dark Irons rejoined Ironforge?
