If I remember right Vantablack involves something like carbon nanotubes or something that creates a texture in the surface that causes it to absorb more light, so there was something novel to that that allowed it to be patented.
Also I think it was invented for more technical use which is why he was able to get the exclusive licence for artistic use.
Don’t think so, it’s just the specific formulation. The guy who did the pink has made at least the blackest acrylic paint and sells it for $22 a bottle. It’s also probably not quite accurate to call vantablack a paint, it needs special equipment to safely apply it to surfaces.
Yup, I’m just going from memory, but it’s meant for technical situations where some device needs to not have light bouncing around in it (the one that comes to my mind would be things like the interior of a camera where you just want the light hitting the sensor to only be the light coming directly from the lens, and not get anything bouncing off the interior. Now this would probably be more for really specialized scientific use stuff like cameras in satellite telescopes or something)
But from what I remember as well, the artist in question tended to be talked about as having more money than talent.
Ok, having read its wiki page, the full blown version is basically grown on the surface of whatever is being coated. And the paint that he licensed isn’t quite as black, but still requires a temperature of 100–280 °C (212-536°F) and vacuum post-processing
Yep, I’m sure they’re probably better at making them now, but not sure if they’re to the point they need to be to make that feasible yet.
And since I just uploaded a few, for no good reason, pics from my last two trips out (warning last pic is of an orb-weaver spider if people have a problem. It’ll be right after the cute tiny crab)
my garage was infested with black widow spiders because the gov sprayed for mosquitoes and killed off spider predators too. so huge infestation of horrible awful horrible-ness. i didnt want to fumigate or use bug spray so considered buying several praying mantis, when to my surprise, mud daubbers moved in and fixed it for me.
havent seen one of those yet. have seen (sub tropics is bug central) brown recluses and banana spiders, also. the banana spiders are outside spiders and shoot their web threads across long distances, not sure why. they are quite odd.
Reading through the thread (especially the mock-ups of blood/void elves using hairstyles from other races) You know what would be awesome (in my opinion)? Look at the female draenei hairstyles…can you imagine the thalassian elf women having their cute, elegant, high tail, ponytail, pull through, braided, and tied strands styles? Elves need more ponytail and especially braid options for the elf ranger look.
What I would like to see is alternate jewellery colours for Lightforged like normal Draenei got. Needing to keep the bright gold jewellery in mid when mogging is what keeps me from playing a Lightforged Draenei.
Hell, why not outright give them the option of normal Draenei tails? It’s the same model after all.
tattoo design for male Belfs, and helfs. I would also add velfs, but I tried to do a somewhat phoenix like design, and I’m not sure if velfs use the phoenix symbol. https://i.imgur.com/IajY3jJ.png
me too. doc told me he couldnt give me more than one prescription for steroids. boy those are happy joy joy pills, lemme tell ya. 1, because they immediately resolve even the worst inflammation and my body is a mass of inflammation from rheumatoid arthritis (auto immune disorder where your immune system mistakes parts of your own body as foreign invaders), and 2, because they elevate mood and energy levels. i’m not looking forward to the day when i have none left. instead, he wants to give me a form of chemotherapy. lol now thats whatcha call a bad day
