I just ran my first pug raid, 10 man naxx on my priest. I did shadow because i didnt feel comfortable healing considering ive never done naxx.
The rules were MS rolls normally and OS rolls /99. A necklace dropped that was an upgrade for both my specs so i rolled MS and won it. Raid leader said i lose on my next roll because i rolled MS and instantly equipped it. Im genuinely curious as to what i did wrong, im not arguing it. Shouldnt i have rolled for main spec considering it was an upgrade for both my spec?
You likely rolled on a neck which had MP5 (mana per 5 seconds) which is generally a healer item.
It’s also arguably for ele shamans too, but yeah … people tend to get finicky about that.
Just had something similar happen in a naxx 10 I’m in on my spriest.
The disc priest rolled ms for a wand with hit, which I won and felt bad so gave it to him to replace his 78gs level 60 wand.
Then a ring with mp5 dropped and he threw an absolute fit when the warlock won it. I had to call them out on it and they still threw a hissy fit even though they did the same damned thing.
You probably rolled a healer item OS being DPS as MS.
You need to have an addon with your BiS lists and stop rolling everything you consider an upgrade and start checking first. For example mp5 to priests is a weak stat compared to spirit.
Ok thats what i thought happened i was just making sure, i do have an addon and it was an upgrade for shadow spec too. But yeah i shouldve known it was a healer item. Ty for the reply
Mp5 items pop up as upgrades for shadow. Unfortunately people don’t see it this way and get a little bent out of shape when a dps rolls for items like that.
Guess in the long run it makes sense because a healer without mana is worse than a dps.
It’s generally acceptable to tell the raid leader ahead of time that you are going to be rolling main spec on healer gear even though you are coming as dps. They’ll either be cool with it or they won’t, but no one wants to be surprised by you rolling on stuff that isn’t for the spec you came in.
You didn’t mention anything about it, but lots of MS>OS groups do +1, where after you win a piece of gear, if it was contested you get a +1, and you lose subsequent contested rolls to anyone else who rolls without a +1.
Pugs are insuffferable…turning tide dropped and i was on my hpal, a warlock rolled on it and the raid leader gave it to warlock even though i won…he said paladins dont use swords they use maces.
I think this is also dependant on the raid leader. With the guild I’m in, they specifically say “whatever spec you normally/prefer to run” is MS.
Pugs get asked what their MS/OS are when they join, and we have a post in the guild Discord to claim your MS/Main (for those in-guild and those who run with us often).
This is at least what I know from raiding in-guild. I have ran with some pugs, but it’s normally not that big of a deal for me since I run a warlock for main toon.
I generally have never seen anyone to be allowed to be “MS” that’s not their current spec.
I’ve seen EXCEPTIONS, when tank joins and wants to roll DPS. Like, a THICCCC tank he is clearly a carry. Or a DPS carry who wants to roll healer or tank.
Yeah, that summarizes it. Real carries are allowed to pick and choose, but general public is not…at least in my experience.
Yeah, idk. It could be something that just the guild does, but it seems to work pretty well so far.
Edit: Also, when a pug joins and say what their MS is, I think the LM writes it down, so we know for not only during the raid, but also for future runs that they join (we keep track of who gets what in a spreadsheet cause it helps us change the loot rules when something just isn’t working)
