Concerns about low-level dungeon mobs

hey everyone,

i want to talk about a recent change in world of warcraft classic that’s been bothering me, and i’m sure some(a small niche) of you feel the same way. i know not everyone likes farming gold, but there are some of us who like to ‘optimize’ gold farming routes and dungeons and see it as a challenge to try and find the ‘next best thing’. but blizzard made some adjustments to low-level dungeon mobs, specifically those that appear as ‘grey’ in the level indicator.

before, these dungeons were a valuable source of gold. but now, after 60 seconds of combat, mobs in lower level dungeons gain a spammable stun ability, become immune to slows and crowd control, and even get a huge speed increase. it’s become nearly impossible to efficiently farm them. you have to stop and kill things over and over in small packs or else you just get stunlocked and die.

the reason given for these changes was to combat botting and gold sales. however, it’s clear that these changes have made no impact on the amount of bots in the game, and instead, they only negatively affect players like me. the recent closure of BT is an example.

with the introduction of the wow token, where players can pay for their subscription using in-game gold, earning gold in-game has become even more valuable. by limiting our ability to farm these low-level mobs effectively, blizzard is indirectly reducing the availability of gold for players who rely on farming and selling loot to sustain their subscription.

on top of that, these changes unfairly disadvantage classes that rely on kiting mobs and using crowd control as survival tactics. it feels like our playstyles are being restricted, and it’s frustrating.

thanks for taking the time to read this. i really just want the opportunity to test my characters power that it has obtained in a neat, creative way. it feels unintuitive and wrong to be so strong and get crushed in these lower level dungeons because i didnt set a 60 second timer.

These changes were intentional additions by Blizzard to stop people from boosting others and farming gold from old content.

It’s as if you actually lack the iQuotient necessary to understand that you can still farm these dungeons but you have to make smaller pulls instead of the entire dungeon in one pull.

Sorry bud but that change was intentionally patched in by Blizzard. They want it to be this way. You can avoid that by playing Classic Era instead.

Blizzard’s solution is equivalent to burning the house down to avoid actually cleaning it.

Yeah, they didn’t like how one high level person had the ability to boost their FRIENDS/alts/clients efficiently (as we did in the old game and for years and years), so they added those mechanics plus cut exp when anyone overlevel is present (overlevel being so strict a 40 in sm gy will ruin it for the party). The classic devs did what they always do: shoot from the hip with little thought, and just “solve” it with whatever heavy-handed approach requires the least dev time.

The result is that people largely skip leveling dungeon content entirely now.
Great fix.

You aren’t suffering from an unintended side effect. They did this specifically to stop you from doing what you’re trying to do.

This is working as intended. But yes they need to do much more.

One of my ideas was to nerf gold drops if you don’t fill the group. So someone soloing dungeons would only get 1/5 of the drops and gold. Raids could obviously follow the same rule.

Meanwhile a level 60 running a level ~40 through SM Lib still gets the lower-level player decent enough XP that it was worth doing regardless of the entire point of going through being for a quest item instead of just XP.

why though? why is it a problem for people to farm gold lol i dont understand this mentality

Its almost like the want you to buy gold. Oh, wait…

if i have done the work in raids and fully geared out my character why can i not go into an old dungeon and pull the entire thing at once and steamroll it? i really have to set a timer for 45 seconds so i dont get stunlocked? just to dodge some mechanic that has literally 0 benefits. it doesn’t stop me, or bots, or anyone else from farming old dungeons. its just straight up annoying for no reason. thats my entire point.

they should just add a mechanic to raiding in Ulduar, every 60 seconds you have to solve a captcha. thats the equivalent of this mechanic

its as if you lack the optical spheres located in the skull that allow you to fully read a post

The mob changes are awful and affect a lot of legitimate players. I also love how you just teleport or mobs teleport to you if you make them evade for half a second, intentionally or not.

There are many ways to get gold. Some are more prone to botting and farming instances has been a known problem in the economy as they have nerfed gold from some raids and old instances over time. They weren’t balanced with you destroying them and being an efficient way to farm gold. So thats my whole point just balance them to be in line with other content.

Just learn the HOS farm like all the other farmers. If 2.8k GS mages can dualbox it I’m sure you can figure it out

Probably to promote people buying wow tokens…

Idiotic change that removed a fun gold-farm for so many people. It wasn’t even great gold, but it was peaceful. I loved one-pulling dungeons and healing up with the right trinkets…stormchops or dragonbreath chili food to hit all the mobs…skullflame shield or sporeggar shield…Now mobs from zul-farrak can stunlock me? it makes no sense

Every single one of these threads is a transparently-obvious “I CANT CLEAR ALL OF SM CATHEDRAL / LIVE STRAT / DEAD STRAT IN A SINGLE PULL IT’S NOT FAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIR” whine about a well-deserved nerf to the efficiency of farming old dungeons.

You can still farm these dungeons for gold, but the pulls must be smaller. Boo. Hoo.

Bring back the 30 instance limit per 24-hour period for some real lulz.
