Disclaimer: This is entirely just for fun, I have no expectation that this will ever make it into the game.
Class name: Void Knight
Basically a paladin, but for shadow priests.
Armor/Weapons:
1 swords and maces, 2h swords and maces, staves.
Armor: Mail
Roles: DPS, Tank
Specializations
Shadowblade: Melee dps with some mid range options. Basically shadow re-imagined into a melee class.
Discipline: Melee tank Unlike priest that balances light and shadow, this would be more balancing sanity and insanity. Defensive barriers, void eruptions, maintains sanity with pain for better defensive options.
Might update this a bit more with details as they come to me, especially if this gets any attention.
Void(-insert adverb- Render, tender,walker,weaver,etc)
Ranged caster: Unlike shadow priest, harnesses the raw essence of the void, rather than its mental influence. Potentially uses some portal magics, maybe a spell akin to Infinite stars that applies stacks that make it do bonus damage on subsequent hits (maybe working kind of similar to mongoose bite)
Perhaps work some of the corruption effects into their kit, such as twilight devistation. (idea inspired by Nerijzahn)
Edited: Remembered to add the ranged spec to the main post: Added some suggestions by people. Thank you all for your posts.
That’d be cool. It makes sense that if priests can go shadow, there would be a paladin equivalent to that. I’ve already come up with an ability concept for the tank spec:
Manic Taunt: Force an enemy to taunt its own nearby allies, causing them to attack it. Et tu, Brute?
Interesting idea. There are void themed classes in lore I believe. I am just not sure of their name. Void elves supposedly practice some kind of voidmancy.
Paladins were originally priests trained in martial combat to form the silver hand. This wouldnt be paladins turning to shadow, this would be shadow priests, probably under Alleria or Alleria’s teacher, following in similar steps to the silver hand of old.
You dislike that someone brought up “Paladin” and “Void” in a conversation. You didn’t even read the concept to know if you do or do not like the class idea.
Void is its own cosmic force. All of the 6 forces have at least one class dedicated to them but void. It deserves it’s own class, not just a spec.
Shadow could return to its pre-void form self which I see a lot of shadow priests wanting.
However:
New names, I know some specs share the same name but these are two specs of the same name on two classes. Also, we want at least 3 specs. 2 specs isn’t good for a class.
I like this idea. This is a character style that definitely hasn’t been filled.
So far tracks, but what about axes and polearms?
No offense, but this seems less “It should be mail” and more “Mail for the sake of mail.” Imo, a knight would wear plate armor - plus most of the cool void-themed armor we have today is plate (case in point - Ny’alothan plate)
This sounds like a fun spec idea and I’d totally play this
