Comunity needs to understand that HUNTER PETS EXIST

It’s TBC, we all know that hunters bring so much damage to the table, even a mediocre hunter can do the rotation and help a lot. We all like that, it makes everything easier and smoother. Imagine a hunter that traps, do rotations and top the damage meters, making your full dungeon experience the best ever. We ALL love hunters that do well, because the class shines in this expac.

Now healers and paladins, hear me up:
WE DONT DO AS MUCH DAMAGE AS YOU’D LIKE >WITHOUT< OUR PETS.
Ofc I’m talking as a BM hunter, dont bring the SV thing please.

I’m so tired of asking healers to heal my damn pet, I micromanage it the best way I can, while doing dps, trapping, preventing the weird pathing it has. I know sometimes pets are in the worst position ever, picture Nightbane charred earth, there’s nothing else to do but to recall, and do normal rotation, its a dps loss, yes, but our pet is alive.

Im doing dungeons to farm things, paladins dont buff them if you not ask them, healers dont even have the pet frames on, healers even get ANGRY when you ask them to heal our 25% damage source.
They ironically say “well you have mend pet lmao” like, my guy, it doesnt save my pet and it’s a dps loss, and then you will complain that we lack dps in the fight.

I KNOW, I KNOW, tank and players are more important, but you’re not even trying to keep them alive either. I had this druid healer watching my pet in 25% health every time while all the group was at 100% health, not even tossing a low HoT.

I ask you and beg you, HAVE YOUR PET FRAMES ON, AND HEAL THEM, BUFF THEM. They are now very very important.

But when they leave pet taunts on it’s annoying.

I always heal pets in dungeons, healers who don’t are bad. It sucks cause I would normally say find a new healer, but there is a shortage as it is.

Hazzard of the class bro. You got Mend Pet, but that doesn’t mean you can just leave your pets in melee range with the Mana Worms that explode. You gotta pull your pet out of mechanics and not expect the healers to pay attention for you. If a pet is sitting in fire, move it, don’t expect the healers to pump heals into it for the duration of the fire…

I have always played pet classes, since EQ, in EQ2, DAoC, LoTRO, and WoW.

I also play healers.

In general, the pet is the owner’s responsibility. There is enough going on without a healer having to manage that as well, unless they have time on their hands, or look over and decide to toss your pet a regen.

I never expect a healer to tend to my pet. If it dies, I manage or I rez it.

Maybe a Hunter isn’t the class you should be playing. To echo what was said, if you don’t want to tend to your pet, why should anyone else.

Man, I imagine its even less dps when the pet is dead. If a hunter doesn’t even attempt to use a single mend pet, I assume they don’t value their own pet so why should I? Its not the channeled version that it was. If a single GCD tanks your dps then you are likely doing more wrong than right.

This doesn’t mean I don’t heal pets at all. I will heal them if the situation allows for me to. But generally if the hunter doesn’t make an attempt, I won’t either.

I’ll always choose an actual player to heal over your pet if you can’t micromanage the thing.

you’ll get a renew at most, but I’m not wasting my mana because you can’t pull your pet out of a cleave or aoe.

A lot of Hunters I see don’t know the basics of pet management, and rely more on the healer to keep their pet alive than their own proper handling of the AI.

I’d be happy just to have my pet buffed. I get 12% SP from my felguard’s STA/INT yet I have to beg everyone to buff the thing.

Part of that is either pets don’t show up on most raid frames unless you specifically tell it to, and buffing groups often doesn’t also buff pets.

If I’ve got mana to spare, sure.

Otherwise I’m going to heal players (worth between 75-100% of a dps) over a pet (25% of a dps).

just added pet frames today or yesterday. I tank more than i heal, so it didn’t come up as much before.

Just tell them they’ll parse better if they heal the pet. That’ll show the zoomers.

During heavy cleave damage to the tank and all melee, I make sure to heal hunter pets first so that the tank will scream at me when they die.

Chain heal jumps to pets; shamans have been healing pets all along and they never even knew it!

Or maybe I cast chain heal on a pet? /Shrug who knows.

The UI I use does not show hunter pets.

Can you recommend an addon with the option to show pet health bars so I know when they need help?

I feel similar about my earth elemental but usually when he’s out he’s tanking in an emergency situation and still gets no heal attention.

Tank priority ofcourse but pets and minions do need some love.

As a healer, I’m so tired of hunters asking me to heal their pet DURING a fight…

That’s the problem with hunters – they don’t think that healers have to save up mana (and spell cooldowns) for things that haven’t happened yet, when actually that is one of the toughest jobs healers have: being ready to save the tank IF and WHEN they take damage. And that “think-ahead” even includes the time between fights. Healers don’t get an instant mana-restore after every fight, and no group wants to wait a minute while you drink.

If I’m a healer, I will even let a DPS die (much less a pet) during a battle if I need to save my healing mana for the tank. My goal is NOT to maximize the hunter’s DPS for him. If he over-aggros his pet, of course it dies! DPS shouldn’t do that. Tanks get the aggro. Not DPS. Not pets.

If I’m DPS, I don’t second-guess the healers. If I’m a hunter, I either heal my pet or let it die.

But turn on their healing frames? Buff them? That’s reasonable.

Now that’s planning ahead!
