Completely New To Caster Classes in Arena, Some Experience in BGs'

I am thinking of learning how to play caster classes/spec in arena. I have only done melee in arena. Like the title says i do have a little experience in BGs’ as a caster. For those of you who main caster classes/specs in both arena and BGs’, what advice would you give me to improve drastically besides playing a lot.
Also, what class/specs would you recommend me to start with that isn’t too difficult but not too easy. If off meta and fun is the class that would be a great addition.

All casters are pretty easy with the exception of Affliction lock, Boomkin, and Spriest.

However if you want the easiest path to a high rating, I’d recommend devastation evoker. Even the most braindead are seeing large degrees of success with it, so it’s probably great for a beginner.

i do not want the easiest path

Well if you want a caster that is off meta but still pretty good… maybe fire mage after the buffs on Tuesday or Ele shaman.

ok, thanks for the information

I would find something you really enjoy and just hit that pretty hard. If you really enjoy something you’ll get good at it.

Idk only thing I can really think of is be really aware of kicks and when you can cast. Try to start picking up on kicking patterns during games, its a little rough at first but you’ll catch on.

Try pet build demo.

Well playing a lot and getting comfortable with spec/binds/faking/positioning and overall just learning to do damage and play is gonna be your biggest improvement on any caster. Just one of those things that come with time…usually.

Don’t care rating, just spam 2s/3s/shuffle w.e until you get a good grasp on doin dam.

Any caster in particular you wanna play? They are vary different.

You have mage on one end that is very mobile, has self peels, alter, etc and is very straight foward in terms of doing damage, its rotating cds and surviving that get people tripped up usually. Overall mage is way more forgiving and has tools to let you feel like you can play the game and do w.e mostly unless your vs hunters or smthing like double warlock xd.

Then you stuff like SP that took me just under 1k games to hit 2.4 on learning to play the new style and live was quite the hurdle. No mobility and everyone trains and dispels. Fell in love with the spec but its def sink or swim while you learn it and nowhere near as forgiving as mage is in terms of dealing damage, tracking set bonus/cath and getting fears off while being run down. Tons of pressure

Lock is like the best of all worlds in terms of its tankynss/cc and damage output but they are the most killed caster for a reason, you still gotta use port/gate and defensives correctly. If you panic and overlap wall/pact and a port or HS in rapid succession ur a guranteed goner next setup.

Bottom line is each caster is way different just find what playstyle caster you like and spend time on it. Bgs aren’t the best way to get XP since 99% of time you can sit in back and AFK dps people. You aren’t improving much there and would get better benefit on a training dummy in that regard.

TLDR:
Find what caster you like and spam que until you comfortable with binds/rotation/mechanics of it. Some casters are more complex then others in terms of damage rotation/burst and using defensives, if your looking for easy more forgiving transition start mage if you want nightmare mode start SP.

IMO, I would 100% play dev evoker. it’s very simple to use, not to crazy for keybinds, and generally people don’t know what to do against them until you get higher rated. it will teach you how to damage while being trained or kite successfully. you have a ranged kick & a CC to use on healer. I would personally not recommend any other caster to start out with as their entrance difficulty is much higher.

Ret paladin or marks

Just be hyper focused on having good positioning. This is the most important part about playing caster dps. When you are the kill target try to get the ops to chase you into a bad spot in order to go on you in which it’s also easy for your healer to heal you but hard for the enemy healer to heal his teammates.

When you aren’t the kill target stand in a position that pressures the enemy healer with cc or damage and then blast the people hitting ur partner.

Boomy is actually :frowning:

Mage takes skill. If you want something similar to a brain dead easy spec like melee then go for BM hunter if you want something a bit more off spec go Survival Hunter (although technically melee it has alot of caster components)

Happy medium would be Elemental Shaman easy to play insta cast spells and fun

Nah boomy is behind destro by 5%. Destro is 66.2 and Boomy 61.8

Feral is the most killed spec firstblood at 67.1 xd

In destros case it doesn’t mean they are weak or anything defensively. Most of the time ppl aren’t gonna let you free cast to dictate match and if your bad about cd/mobility usage you prob die first lol.

Boomy is similar regard to no one is letting one free to w key dam and spam clones all game

Ah yes, but I was talking about at 2100+ to alleviate the egregiously bad play scenarios :stuck_out_tongue: The data changes then.
