Going to be honest, I no life one character in Wow and dont play other MMO’s/games in general. But honest question, how does the maintenance in wow (time wise) compare to other MMO’s/game systems?
I can barely tolerate one MMO so I wouldn’t know.
I play
FF14
GW2
Rift
Their down time i would say is 1/4 of wows maybe
Not a fan of FF14 but I just googled their schedule, they had 2 separate maintenances on the 19th and one on Feb 1st.
They were all down around 11 - 2 AM PST and all completed within the schedule window, and the dates were 2 weeks apart.
Must be nice.
every time FF14 puts out a major patch, the servers are down for 24 hours. if there are major problems, theyll take the servers back down for a bit the next day. the difference is that theyre doing it on JP time, during their business day, which is the middle of the night in the US so it doesnt feel as bad
i believe ESO does their maintenance midday also. GW2 is the outlier, they push theirs out live so all you have to do is relog
While WoW’s downtime recently has been somewhat excessive, the “weekly maintenance” complaints are steaming piles of entitled crap. As already said, FFXIV has 24 hour cycles for major content changes… ESO does their maintenances in a similar fashion as WoW and are often starting 10-11am (from what I remember with them), and Cryptic/Gearbox with Star Trek online has weekly maintenance with the occasional unscheduled shutdowns too… in almost no other case than WoW do the playerbase lose their minds over downtime… like WoW, STO often has tuesday downtimes, but today they too had an unscheduled maintenance period from 7-9:30 PST…
I do understand the frustrations with the current frequent maintenance and maintenance extensions… but Blizz could post a 1hr downtime and have the servers up in 10 minutes instead and people will complain they were lied to the same as if Blizz said a 1hr downtime and it was 1hr and 10 mins… and the same entitled complaining if that 1hr became 10.
I really do despise coming here and seeing an onslaught of complaints regarding whatever current situation. Wish they’d keep it all to one thread instead of feeling entitled to create their own.
my server is up… time to play…
They’re all up. That won’t stop all the complaints tho.
…they push theirs out live so all you have to do is relog.
Twenty years of software and hardware advancements and WoW still isn’t there yet.
as far as i know they’re the only MMO that can do it, i’m sure theres a reason why but i’m not educated in that kind of thing. might not be possible with how old wow’s infrastructure is or something
Also 19 years of running on the same code base that not be 100% compatible with more modern networking techniques.
I had a Unity Project from 3 years ago that won’t work with the newer version of Unity and therefore cannot benefit from all the advancements without a complete rebuild.
FFXIV had months of Horrific Server ques for some servers when Endwalker released, I’ve yet to see that happen with WoW any time I’ve played since Leigon.
I’ll admit, GW2 has barely any downtime nowadays with servers basically being patched live, what they’ve honestly managed to do is amazing but Content is like 6+ months apart for a couple hours of story and there’s not a lot of end game. Pretty sure they haven’t added a new raid for some years now.
Can’t comment on RIFT.
Also people want to complain about WoW botching launches and such when Endwalker was unplayable for over a week due to massive queue times and DCs which…put you back in the queue. DF was bad for A52 and co, but you had no issues after 2 days. Even on the second week I STILL had 1-2 hour queues for Endwalker on I believe Aether.
We’d be disappointed if you weren’t?
yeah ive brought up endwalker’s launch a couple times today. now THAT was something worthy of complaining - SE deserved the backlash they got for it. that was worse than any WoW expansion launch i can remember
OP’s name is clever if you understand French, German, and English.
Their world is much smaller than this game, which means less code, and also means less things to break when updates happen.
Which frankly still wasn’t enough. People come on here and complain about “blizzard bootlickers”, but the XIV community would let YoshiP sacrifice their firstborn and still probably thank him.
Regardless this is a bit of a sidetrack and the point is a couple of hours very rarely during offpeak hours is incredibly “whatever”. I was off work yesterday and wanted to knock some dungeons out since I am enjoying SPriest after the changes. You know what I did during the extended maintenance besides complain? Played a different game for 2 hours.
This isn’t a fair question. The game is old enough to vote.
WoW’s code base has been scope creeped to the point where the game barely runs.
At a certain point, they are going to have to just rebuild it from scratch, probably a new game.
In BFA, you couldn’t do world PvP with more than a dozen or so people in the shard because of the server side lag.
In WoW classic, you could do 200 v 200 in Blackrock.
The game is falling apart. That’s why you get more and more maintence periods.
Some of these complaining types could actually go see the real world outside too.
