I think BM was put down by Blizzard in Shadowlands and I don’t understand why.
BM was doing very well in BFA.
Currently looking at Damage numbers and raid test data, BM is in the middle of the pack and not even in top 10 DPS.
I think BM needs some tuning, some buff or at least need to receive burst damage of sorts.

No, it doesn’t.
We’re still in the first month of the expansion with no raid and incomplete power systems: our soulbinds aren’t complete, the covenants are still in the single digits, and most of us haven’t even gotten our first legendaries yet. We haven’t even scratched the surface of what our classes are really capable of doing. For example, you’re still in blues and talking about how the damage feels lacking: of course, it’s going to feel bad, you’re not there yet.
Also, BM wasn’t “doing very well,” it was the dominant PVE spec in BFA because it was a completely mobile ranged DPS that benefited heavily from Azerite Powers, Corruption, and Essences to the point of being utterly broken. Now that those don’t exist anymore - that’s what pulled the rug out from under BM. It wasn’t targeted for nerfs - it basically got hit with the same thing everyone else did.
Also BM burst is naturally poor. That’s (and lousy pet AI) is the price it pays for being able to spit out consistent DPS on the move.

Keep in mind 99% of the people who play hunters are horrible at it. BM will still be a top dps spec when played by someone who plays it right.
Bottom like is when 98% of the player base is blow the 50% in terms of skill it makes s class look bad… not everything g can be a DH where a yappie dog smashing a keyboard plays at 90% efficiency.

BM was nerfed during prepatch because it was too strong back then, but remove the Azerite and Essences in Shadowlands and that nerf makes no sense anymore. There just hasn’t been another balancing, and there won’t be for another week at least. December 15 is the expected date for the balance update.
BM also has weak legendaries so none of the systems from Shadowlands make up for the loss of BfA powers. But since BM was the strongest Hunter spec for all of BfA, it would be fine if MM takes the spot for now.
BM is also not that bad at single target. It’s just bad at cleave since getting 3 stacks of Frenzy is slow when you don’t have Wild Call proccing like crazy.

Actually we got a blanket 5% dmg nerf about a week or two before expansion drop.
I am not having any trouble at all with dps. I generally am top of the charts for both single target and 4+ targets
Ah yes, wait for the first raid tier which only has two pieces of gear with Crit and Haste, and pretty much the rest of it has BIS secondary stats for MM hunter. Wow, great design!
BM does indeed need some love. My 2 mains are Destro lock and BM Hunter, both 182 and my lock has higher AOE, and single target.
Playing in a stack group of hunters to gear up MM just rips BM to shreds. Its a sad time for BM…

Not going to complain if BM gets a buff. I find myself lagging behind other DPS during AoE pulls in Mythic dungeons, but with so many mechanics on these boss fights that involve lots of movement, I usually pull ahead in ST fights as I can continue my rotation while avoiding the bad stuff.

The gap is going to get wider next week. Soulforged Embers is likely to be bad in many situations just from mechanics and movement. And Serpentstalkers (according to Bloodmallet) is almost 400% better than any of the BM specific legendries. And it just works in the background, 100% of the time, no fuss, no muss.

A lot of legendaries aren’t equal atm. TBH I will still swap it for the raid one if I get lucky.
Just got Soulforge Embers today, but I don’t like the clunkiness. I’m going to stick with Rylastalker.
99% of people play BM terribly
the ONLY advantage MM has is the legendary. MM is going to catch a nerf then everyone will flock to BM
MM has better AOE currently, but MM and BM single target is about the same. Just wait until Castle Nathria comes out, the entire loot table for hunter is Cri mastery and only two crit haste pieces which BM’s want.
BM doesn’t need to be in top 10 because the most important thing about BM is not being the best damage dealer, but instead dealing damage while with full mobility.
People who don’t understand this single fact is people who haven’t played other classes. Don’t want to be rude, but …

Yea, cause people in a mythic + are going to take that into account when selecting people to take part in their runs. No, they won’t.
everyone is judging class balance based off heroic and m0 dungeons with aoe packs and bosses that die in 20 sec. just stop
