Women aren’t responsible for their behavior or actions?
Righttttttttttt it’s totally not due to some form of bigotry whatsoever.
Bigot =/= Racist
I’m not going to sit here and say “No one has ever declined someone because they made an assumption about the players race based on realm” I’m 100% positive that has happened but you can’t sit here and say that all cases of it are because of that.
If you had asked me back in wrath what realm has the worst players, not skillwise but socially, I would have said Mal’Ganis I swear every random dungeon I was in that had a Mal’Ganis player they were trash talking the group to the point everyone I talked to knew Mal’Ganis players were problematic
I also found the most toxicity when running lower keys on alts. The scenario when running 15+ keys is very different indeed, much more laid back and if you know how to put a group together it goes very smoothly. I feel sorry for new players and also for players who are trying to learn how to tank or heal.
Punishment for toxicity and key leaving would help in this scenario since it would drive away those with no patience, and those that are just using low keys to farm valor or a specific trinket.
Frustration at someone leaving a key is of course primarily due to it making the time spent a wasted effort with lost time and a depleted key. I don’t think the right question is “is the person who left toxic?” The reason being that sometimes it’s justified, other times it’s not. But the reality is that the group should not be put in the position in the first place where a person leaving is that costly. That’s the mechanic that creates the stronger potential of a poisonous interaction.
Under the traditional dungeon function, someone leaving could be replaced. That, by itself, would change a lot.
These two changes should be done together:
- Get rid of key depletion.
- You can replace someone who left mid-run.
The person who left still causes some wasted time, of course. That’s inevitable, and by increasing the likelihood of not timing the key just from that wasted time, there’s still a penalty suffered. But it’s a much lesser penalty. The key holder’s key doesn’t deplete. The group still can re-fill it’s ranks to at least finish the dungeon (getting one of their 1 / 4 / 10 dungeons in for the vault, regardless of timing it, which is often their primary goal anyway).
I habitually decline ragnaros, quel’thalas, nemesis, azralon, and the like.
I don’t give two dukes what their race is. I care that my experience has taught me that these servers often house players with connection issues or language barriers, so I choose not to take the risk of eating my time.
Toxicity breeds toxicity.
Blizzard’s attitude, especially since J. Allen Brack came on the scene weirdly enough, have given off the impression that the devs have a hate/hate relationship with the player base.
Their attitudes towards the people that play their games have aided far more in toxicity being prevalent than the actual players themselves.
If you build a space filled with toxicity, those within will be toxic.
I agree with this. Racism and clear Harassment should be punished. However, how can you punish someone for “Toxicity” when there’s no definition to uphold?
I don’t discriminate by ethnicity or by what other languages someone speaks, but if I’m putting together a voice-required PVP team, the players have to speak my language well enough for me to understand them. I’m sure that as complex as M+ can be, it’s necessary there as well.
And it’s not a “white people” thing or a 'Murican thing. Have you seen the listings in LFG for PVP that list “Latino only” in the description?
I can handle a pretty broad range of accents well enough. I’ve even booted supposed English speakers either because their accent was so broad that every time they spoke I was responding with, ‘Huh?’ or their language was so laced with urbanity or profanity that it has essentially drifted too far from English to be understood.
I’ve had French and Spanish and Portuguese and Chinese and Russian and every other imaginable native speakers in groups I’ve run. As long as they can be understood in English, I don’t care.
Just as those who need groups run in other languages are free to create groups that require use of that language, I am free to do so.
That’s not racism. That’s practicality.
Agreed. That is why in my original post, I suggested that the key shouldn’t get depleted. This seems to be the lesser of evils here.
Yes, it is:
Language Discrimination
Language discrimination is a subset of national origin discrimination. Language discrimination refers to the unfair treatment of an individual based solely upon the characteristics of their speech; such as, accent, size of vocabulary, and syntax. It can also involve a person’s ability or inability to use one language instead of another. Because language discrimination is a form of national origin discrimination, the same body of law prohibits it. This type of discrimination generally makes it illegal to prefer one language over another, though there are many exceptions. The driving force behind the illegality of language discrimination is whether or not an individual was hired, fired.
It’s considered in the same category as being prejudice against someone’s country of origin. It’s the law bro.
I’m amazed that all of this talk of fundamentally changing M+ is derived from people not having the luxury of having parents that taught them to be able to handle minor set backs. This is what happens when you give kids trophy’s for everything, they turn into adults that whine about losing a key level in a key.
Yep, pretty much exactly this.
New / bad players think high level m+ or arena or raiding is a bunch of sweaty nerd rager incels but the reality is when you’re at the higher levels you’re more than likely a calm player who knows what he/she is doing.
People would be surprised to learn it’s their own lower bracket (and themselves) who are often the worst part of the wow population. I get a lot more rage whispers at 1700 mmr than I do 2400 mmr.
I’ve raided with the French when I was on Zul’Jin! (or was it Thrall )
Great guys, they’d explain what they wanted me to do in English then have their French discussion and all was well
You really should read your own materiel before you post it.
If the task requires a specific language and you don’t possess it, not being given that task is not illegal discrimination.
If it isn’t about hiring and firing, it isn’t about illegal discrimination.
My only problem with fighting with the French is that when the team fight started, I looked up and they were all running for the horizon.
Sorry.
Terrible joke.
Its not about whether its illegal or not, the discussion is about the practice, is the practice racist? Yes, it is.
By server, absolutely. But requiring a player to be able to communicate in the language of the group is not racist.
It’s practicality.
It’s alright I get it
