I am honestly inclined to believe this to be the case. Also. I honestly cannot bring myself to acknowledge the mission tables as canon. Even if they are supposed to be. I just can’t.
I dunno, I guess I don’t want to believe it because while I understand RP is supposed to just be good ol’ fun I feel like at the point we just handwave everything as “this didn’t actually happen, they’ll retcon it later” we’re so far into headcanon territory that the last breadcrumb was tossed a couple national borders back and there’s no more “stakes” to really create a character around for me.

There are at least 15 NPC’s in-game wearing actual glasses, with a variety of tinted and non-tinted models. The items already exist. Just add the item to a loot table. They add these convoluted and complex systems that people get annoyed with and yet something as simple as adding glasses? No, sorry. Can’t do that.

And they clearly haven’t forgotten that they exist, the Ebon Blade Quartermaster that joins you in the Maw in the SL intro quests has them.
Something else that’s in the game files that I would love to have (they could add it as a prize for Trial of Style or something) - tattoo shirts. It’s how they gave the vrykul in Legion their tats. I would love something like that for our toons. You could say it’s irrelevant now with the new customizations, but I don’t think it is. I think an item with designs that any faction/race could wear is a lovely idea. And it’s already right there.
I do want these unimplemented items to keep their wacky database names though
