So they realized the tank/heal essence issue for those two rep-based ones, but not for anything else? /boggle. So this system is still inordinately punishing against pure-DPS mains (or really anyone that isn’t a druid, paladin, or monk).
I have a funny feeling people are jumping the gun here. The post talks about adding flexibility, all im getting from this post is “you can do the 8.3 content to get the essences” NOT “you can get all your mains essences on your alt right away” so I think and pray it’s not but I believe what this means is it will not necessarily take less time to get them tho. We shall see.
Yeah it’ll be mindboggling if they don’t extend this to the bg/EP essences, but that’s just classic blizzard at this point so I wouldn’t be surprised.
If I could have foresaw this chain of events, I’d have swapped to my paladin or monk in 8.2.
Blizzard only gives thing up under it’s terms and it must always come with strings. WTS !!
I definitely think the celebrations are a bit preemptive. This system in (what I believe to be) this form does nothing for returning players and very little for players who wish to swap roles from a pure dps class.
We will have to see like you said, but I can’t see this helping as many people as I’d like it to.
I’m pissed. I hate this account bound crap
Just hope we get more details today since the change is tomorrow. Or are going to get it during maintenance?
Genuinely curious how this will play out. I see it either going:
- Something easy - like tokens drop from bosses, events, pvp etc - and one token allows you to buy a rank 3 essence. So a clear of Ny’alotha should net you all the essences you need. Which… totally feels like how Ion and Blizzard work nowadays. All about the player base. hysterical laughter
- It’s horribly time gated so it takes about a week to get one essence unlocked. And unlocking a bunch will take months for a character with several specs. seems likely - hope to god I’m wrong
Ironically, the thing which is messed up about this is me instinctively assuming the worst about Blizzard’s plans. I wish BFA etc hadn’t made it feel like the game was occasionally a war between players wanting to have fun and developers wanting to increase time played metrics. But here we are.
In a shocking twist, the real Battle for Azeroth was between the players and the devs all along!
and yet we are not adding a option for alts to skip the quest line to aquire the cloak, not saying they should have a high rank cloak but sorry i dont wanna spend hours doing a boring quest line for gear ive already done.
It’s not even a feeling, that’s literally what’s going on. And the devs (and their bosses) don’t yet realize that they are literally strangling this game with that behavior. Their MAUs aren’t going to matter a lick when the game flat out dies because the devs forgot the people only play games that are actually entertaining.
This is just a guess… but Ion alway strikes me as the sort of guy who demands he’s the Banker when his family play monopoly. And spends the entire game demanding everyone play fairly and stick to ‘the rules’. Property swapping etc - CHEATING!
Which makes it feel like he’s systematically hammered down anything that might be fun because it gives someone an advantage (e.g. professions must be awful because - you can’t have players benefit from having them, trinkets can’t be good because then people will have them, etc etc).
But he’s also the kind of designer you see a LOT in pen and paper rpgs - excel spreadsheet warriors who are obsessed by tweaking statistics and are constantly creating house rules for their variant of D and D. But don’t care about things like world history, lore, costumes etc. The kind of person who’s interested in racials rather than the look/feel of the actual race.
Maybe (hopefully) I’m wrong and he’s just dealing the hand he’s been told to play by higher ups…
I mean, he was a lawyer before moving into game design.
To be honest the old lawyer trick of procrastinate until they about to riot before doing something may not be good in the video game industry.
Can we possibly just be able to save up the currency to buy the essences in general? People who don’t have rank 3 essences will still need to do old content in order to unlock access to it on alts which I don’t think will be very reasonable.
Wait, guys, you’ve been talking about them strangling the game to death. What if you’re right, they’re strangling it on purpose.
But the reason they’re doing it is because they want to release WoW2 and they need WoW1 to die first.
If only an MAU wasn’t counted exactly the same if you play 1 minute or 100 hours a month.
And King (candy crush) destroys Blizzard and activision for MAUs by a factor of 10 in those conference calls.
I get why this is needed. However, I get a little bored with all of my alts being funneled into the exact same content… makes me not want to play them.
As always, thank you for all your feedback
Speaking of feedback, can we have a vendor for the cloak?
Could I get some clarification: Does the alt need to have ranks 1 and 2 unlocked to be able to bypass the rank 3 requirements and purchase it from MOTHER, or does your main only have to have rank 3 of the essence unlocked for the alt to be able to use upon purchase?
