Coming from a soloer, shamans are hardest class in the game

Now first off, I imagine the elementals will be brought up. And they can heal.

Except, mages can solo stuff (as seen on mage forum on mmo champ) shamans couldn’t even dream of soloing.

So here are some problems.

Shamans take a TON of damage, its like the damage they receive is literally increased compared to any other class. Not sure why it feels like this, but they feel like a cloth user. I’ve seen this brought up before too. Which leads to…

Their heal spell for both elemental and enhancement isn’t that great. Enhancement sacrifices damage to heal, and they are super limited in how much they can use the heal before running out of resources. Elemental is a bit better, but still not that great. You can’t self heal anywhere near as good as other classes with healing/self sustain. Now here is where I can see some argue…but their healing is an illusion (its there to make you think you got self sustain, but you don’t) which makes it worse self sustain than a mage.

Now, mages have through azerite traits a few ways to defend/sustain themselves. Plus their shields. Arcane self sustain is actually really good with azerite traits, but fire tends to be the to go to spec for soloing mages. On top of that, get 10% min leech, and right there is better than a shaman even if they got 10% min leech. Mages scale really well (for soloing) with leech.

Shamans don’t get shields, a junk self heal ability they can’t even spam because it costs so much mana/resources to cost…and their best ability…the elementals…

yeah sure, such a long cooldown that to solo the harder stuff that even mages can, you can wait for ages for elementals to come off cooldown. On top of that, most of the time soloing the really hard content, elementals don’t last long enough in combat anyway. This is however where elemental is better than enhancement, because at least they can get a bunch of elementals. Elemental is actually better at soloing as far as shaman specs go, but their survivability is still worse than that of a mage.

Never is there a thread or anyone that tries to solo hard content on a shaman. And its certainly because they are worse at it than a mage, which are already considered terrible soloers (except they can actually solo quite crazy stuff if geared properly and with enough skill).

Which is disappointing actually, because shaman lore and class itself is good. Their survivability sucks for hard content, worse than a mage. Their only saving grace is elementals, especially as elemental spec. But with such long cooldown and elementals don’t last long enough to take on world bosses (which mages can do btw) that its such a terrible class for a soloer.

The best shaman was actually in WoD. The amount of self healing shamans had in WoD was insane, but they got rid of glyphs and a bunch of self-sustain abilities in legion and they’ve sucked for soloing and self sustain since then

Wait, what?

I don’t think so, Tim.

If you are having trouble playing a Shaman that’s totally a “you” problem". Shaman is not the hardest class in the bunch.

Except it’s instant cast most of the time and heals for a crap ton.

I can’t do half as well with soloing stuff on my Mage as I can with my Shaman. Even with a crappy ilevel I was killing group quest elites solo. I can’t do that with my Mage.

Enhancement Shaman was crazy easy for me to level with. I owned things in the face, used my Earth Elemental, leveled with Earth Shield and never died.

shaman is one of the easier classes to solo on. i have two, non boosted, at 120. very fun in all specs too.

They are for soloers. Though my “soloing” is world bosses. Can it solo a world boss? Good soloer. Pretty simple thinking of how far a class can solo.

They can’t even solo world bosses. And their elementals don’t last long enough before the world boss is dead.

I’d be glad to be proven wrong and shamans can solo equal or better than what mages can (like I said, on mmo champ there are mages that solo current raids. Thats insane, plus they can solo world bosses too). I bring up mages, just cause they are generally one of the hardest solo classes.

DH, DK, Warlock, Hunter, maybe Disc priest (last I played it, they’ve been nerfed quite a few times so dunno how they are now), Druid, Mage…all can solo world bosses and current content.

If shamans can do that, then I suppose I’m wrong about it. But I’ve played a shaman and their self sustain sucks compared to the classes I listed. Especially since for some reason they take an unusual amount of damage, or at least seem to.

you’re talking about extreme soloing which is different than regular soloing. maybe change your op to your actual argument if you want people to respond the way you want them to.

I dont find shaman difficult at all. I solo’d all kinds of stuff. A couple of examples I could solo the first two bosses Stonecore in cata (farming the mount) and could solo up to durumu in ToT during WoD (also for mounts). Mages definitely have a leg up on some encounters do to Ice Block but that’d be true of comparing them to most classes.

Also we’ll most likely be getting buffed as far as our solo capabilities are concerned as they stated some currently spec specific spells will be made class wide again and we’re getting totems back that will most likely increase our utility.

EDIT: also if you stack the ghost wolf healing azerite trait you actually get a lot of healing from that.

Everyones definition of soloing is different. Though generally a lot of soloers try to solo as much as they can, which is the most common usage of soloing.

Anyone can solo rares or 3 man group quests or craft solo or do quests solo. Thats nothing special at all. Most of the time people soloing actually are talking about harder content.

And that is where shamans fail at, they can’t solo really hard content. So …that doesn’t defeat my post, that just proves it. If mages can solo extreme content, but shamans can’t, then that makes them worse than mages.

no… not everyone can solo world bosses…

No… soloing is soloing. You want to talk specifics, then you give specifics.

I think Elemental is fine, but Enhancement needs a little boost personally, even if is just some passive armor or stamina boost.

Mages, DKs, DH, Warlocks, Hunters, Disc priests (unless they got nerfed too much)…hm…druids…fury warriors…

Still doesn’t counter argue that shamans are any good at soloing. When mages considered the worst at soloing, but shamans can’t solo what mages can, that makes them worse at soloing

Yeah OP, if you’re talking about killing world bosses SOLO, that’s an extreme case that doesn’t qualify for “this class is HARD” conversations.

i got an early christmas present as a boost for a nightborne mage. i am literally the worst mage ever and didn’t even remember i had poly until i was most of the way through opening nazj and you don’t wanna know how many times i died. mage is hard. :stuck_out_tongue:

I find the opposite true for me. I have zero issues with Enhancement. But Ele is just too slow for me now. I miss my Lava Burst spec.

Coming from a soloer, my shaman is definitely not the one I have any trouble on

I am enjoying all the triggered people that can’t counter argue my point properly.

mages are considered the worst solo class. They can solo world bosses and extreme content. As well as quite a few other classes.

Shamans can’t

That makes shamans worse.

If shamans can’t solo content that mages can, how does that not make them harder than mages?

I finished leveling my Enh Shaman and flipped over toy Mage the other day… nearly got my butt handed to me because I forgot I’m squishy and don’t have heals. LOL
