I don’t agree with your OP, but you have a point there. While I wasn’t a closet nerd because I like being myself contrary to what people think, I got all kinds of pushback for being in to RPGs and Fantasy games in general. My friends and coworkers when I was in my teens and early 20s thought the genres were really lame.
Kind of like how some WoW players think Final Fantasy is weeb or “dress up” is lame. Only they’d be making fun of the WoW players too.
I guess it depends on your other interests and who you’re surrounded by.

It’s the only thing that have any permanency, it doesn’t become obsolete the next expansion, or now, the following patch, even if it is grindy it is still worth it, since you only have to do it once and you can have it and use it forever.
Nothing in this game is permanent. The servers will shut down one day.

The op’s post is so wrong.
Not only do i take careful attention to my own characters looks…but i spend a lot of time people watching and looking at other folks characters. Im amazed at some of the outfits that are out there and ive even used those ideas and copy them in my own way.
Trust me op, i think theres more people that care and appreciate what other toons look like than you may think.

I’ve been around on the forums the past few years I know the regulars here and what they do to people.
People were still playing to collect gear and mounts back then. What do you think they were doing then otherwise, as opposed to now?

Like what? Do you even have any ideas or do you just want to gripe? The game is not fundamentally different to how it was 15 years ago. If you’re dissatisfied by it maybe consider moving on.

How old are you? The current 26-30 year olds i know all grew up with computer rooms in their school where everyone went to hangout to play runescape and wow because home pcs werent all accessible still and a lot of people had dial up. Rs and wow were insanely mainstream all the way until 2010, at which point new games happened (league of legends)
My age group did not grow up on WC 1 or 2 or whatever, we saw classmates play it and they played it due to adds and seeing the fantasy elf boxes at best buy and blockbuster. Wow was not a niche thing, it was the game of the 2000s
