Coldlight Surfrunner

Has anyone seen this specific pet at all?

Theory says it's connected to murloc rares but it can be traded and i have not seen a single one available anywhere.
Prior to this week Barnaby was no where to be found. Then suddenly he started popping up for everyone. Either the devs did some tinkering on the backend, or the island + mob type happened to be the right ones to yield Barnaby this week.

So it's possible the Coldlight Surfrunner is like Barnaby, and we just have to wait for the right island + mob combination to pop up.
I imagine this might be the case because if he was connected to the Murloc rares then somebody should have seen him by now and he's been completely MIA.

We can only hope next week

That being said i'm 21/28 on island pets and only one of those can't be traded.
Looks like Murlocs are one of the main enemies on one of the islands this week.

I expect to see quite a few surfrunners
i saw a coldlight rare in one of the island today, should be this week
in whispering reef
Still no Coldlight Surfrunners on any servers according to UndermineJournal.

I also ran Expeditions for about 12 straight hours today, wiped out every Murloc/Gorloc every time I did Whispering Reef. Including multiple Coldlight Rares. No one in my groups ever got the Surfrunner.
I think it's this week personally and I think blizzard just forgot to trigger it to drop. I guess we will see soon.

Nobody has seen this one yet?
Even this week with murlocs kn the map?
I think it's safe to say either it's bugged or for some reason, it isn't meant to drop off the Coldlight Murloc mobs.

Looking at the potential main island owners, perhaps it drops from Makrura or Faceless Ones?

Makrura could potentially make sense, since they keep Murlocs as slaves.
If i had to bet i'd say maybe faceless ones since the Murloc eye quest and the actual flavor text of the pet hint at something displacing them.

Or it could be bugged we'll see.
I've noticed a pattern.

The first couple weeks, elemental invasions were not a thing at the end of an expedition.

After those weeks, fire elemental invasions became a thing. I remember cause I was really confused when they first happened, and freaked out in the WCP community asking if anyone else had seen one.

A few weeks ago, Earth Elemental invasions started.

This week, Water Elemental invasions started.

If I had to guess, in 2ish weeks, Air Elemental Invasions will start.

This makes me wonder if there's other invasions that are triggered to come after Air Elementals, like Murloc invasions.

This also makes me wonder if things like Old God Minions, Black Dragons, etc. as the main island inhabitants are set to only trigger as the main enemy of an island after a certain amount of time has lapsed.

Blizzard just posted an IE invasion schedule. Unfortunately, murlocs were not on the list.

As some players have noticed, we’ve been adding invasion-style events featuring new types of creatures to Island Expeditions every week. Aside from adding a little variety, these also give you a chance to earn different cosmetic rewards.

Here's a schedule for the remaining events which will be added each week over the next couple of months:
Week of October 9 (this week): Water Elementals
Week of October 16: Air Elementals
Week of October 23: Black Dragons
Week of October 30: Tol’vir
Week of November 6: Twilight Dragons
Week of November 13: Old Gods

IMO it's a yet-to-be-discovered trigger or it's bugged. Leaning toward the latter. I've Tweeted at the dev Twitter and Feasel, but no response. Maybe if enough people put in a ticket about the Coldlight Surfrunner, it might cause an investigation into this specific pet.
I'm honestly laughing that I got something right for once. I mean, I didn't get the Murloc invasion right, but I got the fact they were holding back invasions and releasing them periodically right.

Reddit kinda laughed at my theory.

It seems likely that the Surfrunner is outright bugged right now, and just hasn't been noticed by the devs. Either that, or for some reason it's tied to, as previously said, something like the Old God minions instead of Murlocs.
I know its hearsay but I was doing my weekly islands and ended up killing trash/rares that had the same model as the surfrunner. Didnt get a drop (was only 2-3 rolls though)

Yeah that's why people think it may be bugged. There are several different mobs you can kill with that 'deepsea murloc' look, but none of them apparently reward the pet.
Do you think that maybe it could be a wow secret pet obtained in a different manner than normal? I noticed that the spirit healer is a coldlight in island expeditions. Do you think we need to find that pet in a dead state somewhere on the islands?
Honestly? That sounds like something asinine and assbackwards that completely negates the wind condition of the island having to search the island while dead not contributing in any way

So probably maybe it sounds about in line with the reward structure.
Watch the Coldlight Surfrunner be tied to a specific mob on a specific week. If you don't get it that week it may take months to have a chance at it again.

That sounds fun. Let's do more of that.
I wish Blizzard would just clarify the status of the Coldlight Surfrunner.

I don't need to know specifics or receive any hand-outs, just something along the lines of, "Wait a little more" (if it's part of an upcoming invasion or mob rotation) or "We investigated and it looks like this pet was hiding, it's fixed now" (if bugged) or even "It is definitely collectible in-game, keep searching/trying! *winky face*".

This isn't one of those 'puzzle-through-it' situations. This is literally a 'we have no idea if it's bugged or something else' issue because there are zero indicators (other than this pet has not been seen at all) so far.

The search for this pet has not felt fun at all IMO.
