Coldlight Surfrunner

The only relevant argument I could see with your statement Quintessence is if the Coldlight Surfrunner is indeed to tied to any circumstance that we, (as a population) haven't puzzled out yet. That would be, in my mind, a very good reason not to give any hints or updated info on where to find it.

If that isn't the case then I agree that many of us could save considerable time and perpetual anguish chasing this pet (last one!) with having no indication of how to obtain it.

True. However, the issue is that there have been cases before where a pet or other item that should have been available in-game was, for whatever reason, not flagged as collectible. Essentially a bug that made it impossible to obtain until Blizzard investigated and "flipped a switch on" to make it available to players. (Can't think of examples off the top of my head, but I'm 99% sure there were situations like this.)

Because of previous oversights like that, it makes me (and others) doubt that the Coldlight Surfrunner simply needs to be puzzled out. If Blizzard had a flawless track record and all pets/items were obtainable when they are announced/intended to be, then we would have no reason to second guess the Surfrunner. It would be on us to keep trying.

A very brief, "Keep looking!" from Blizzard would suffice. Doesn't give us any hints, only assurance that it's indeed available and we're not wasting our time. Some reassurance/encouragement wouldn't be detrimental to the overall experience IMO.
Remember when we realised the Sha mount was incapable of dropping? I don't recall a blue post regarding it, but I do remember when they finally started dropping - shortly after we brought it up.

Agreed that a simple "You've not solved the puzzle yet!" would be enough.
I have only seen mention of the Coldlight Surfrunner not being obtainable in a couple threads, wowhead comments and unheard conversations on Discord.

There may be a lack of understanding on Blizzards behalf that this is a potential issue. I don't know how many people from Blizzard actively read the forums and if any of them have the resources to bring this to the attention of the appropriate parties. Even those that actively are apart of the conversation in some way without replying may not see this as a concern worth bringing up yet.

Let me digress. There are far to many people (in general) that use these forums that don't constructively add to a conversation or a current problem that I think make finding real concerns and issues, much harder to pin point.

To make my point, there is a very small amount of players actively searching for this pet and providing feedback / concerns. While I can assume there are those that are trying every conceivable method to earn this pet. I know that people that are as dedicated as I am have skimmed and killed anything and everything with no method in a blind hope of having a mental ! go off. That small player base becomes much smaller "if" there is a way of forcing the pet to be earned.

Which I think could be a valid reason as to why there has been no response or update.

TLDR: It's the players' fault for not communicating right.

Yeah, sure....
Our best bet is honestly to just @Muffinus on twitter until one of us gets a response about it.

Even if it's a "It's in game, you haven't figured it out yet," then that's enough.

Like I said, it could be entirely possible the Coldlight is tied to Old God minions and not Murlocs, or some other random mob.

It's possible it's those mobs, but there's been random murloc packs of actual Coldlight murlocs in the last couple weeks that I've seen during my numerous runs on both my DH and rogue. There's only been 1 named mob though, so even if it's that the spawn rate is just super low.

I mean, it's not like it's unheard of with expeditions:

The Octopi pets drop off Naga and Murloc, when you think with the tentacles they'd drop off Old God Minions.

Crabs can drop the Beetle pet, even though that makes zero sense. (And yes, I know beetles can as well)

Turtles can drop the Makrura pet, even though that also makes zero sense. (And again, I know the Makrura can as well)

The Coldlight Surfrunner description also mentions the Coldlight Murlocs randomly disappeared one day. So them dropping from something like Old God Minions could make sense thematically. That said, it is most likely that the pet is simply bugged, because as noted, there are quite a few Coldlight Murloc mobs, including rares, in game.

Has anyone checked the water/ocean around the islands? I've seen a couple of mobs near the surface, but I've never dived down deep to check for anything. Maybe deep water is where they disappeared to?

Other than that (and Economist's idea about being dead) I'm fresh out of ideas. I'll just wait and see if the Old God invasion has this pet.
Crabs can drop the scarab pet? It's one of the last handful I need and I've been going crazy since I've only seen scarabs in like 3 islands out of the hundreds I've run. At least this gives me something else to target while I work on getting the last two elemental pets.
We'll if that's the case i'm just going to kick my feet up and cross my arms and continue to be a non-contributor while i patiently wait for the people who get erect from clicking obscure pebbles in the buttcrack of nowhere to puzzle out the secret magical trigger.

Or wait until Old gods pop up and end up dropping it or blizzard quietly notices that it was supposed to drop from murlocs and flips the switch.

Just tweet at muffinus once a day. Eventually he'll have to respond to one of us.

I normally don't support poking developers daily, but this is kinda getting annoying at this point.

I checked the water around the island in Verdant Wilds.

There's a bunch of mobs out there. (Fish, Threshadons, etc.) but they don't give any Azerite when defeated, so assuming they don't add anything to the drop table either. There's nothing in the deep water that I saw. I went as far as I could before my fatigue would kill me before I would get back.

I went with a friend and her friend, who were farming items, so they didn't even question me being in the water, lol.
anyone in the world have this pet yet

No.
*Inserts scene from The Princess Bride where Westley and Buttercup are in the Fire Swamp*

"Westley, what about the Coldlight Surfrunners?"
"Coldlight Surfrunners? I don't think they exist."

We have one more week before we can say without a doubt that it's bugged. Lol.

If they don't start dropping next week, then we can probably safely assume it's bugged.

Though this week Furbolgs started showing up and they aren't on any list of island invaders, so god knows what else is slated to show up that we don't know about. Lol.
Could it be something really obscure like the sun darter? Or would something like that have been datamined already?

It could be something super obscure like clicking on something hidden on one of the islands or clicking on multiple things in order on one of the islands in order to trigger a rare spawn or something that we just haven't discovered.

Things like that can't be datamined. I just wish muffinus would give us something.
We're not angry/upset enough that they feel the need to toss us a meager scrap to placate us.
