Climbing your way out of 1500 is impossible

Doesn’t this part actually favour boosting ??

It is why boosting is highly profitable. But it has always worked this way. Your average player just doesn’t realize pvp rank is more about group comp based on rank then it is about actual pvp.

You can google and see in wrath before boosting was a open thing, pvpers used to win trade. Not the cheap stuff you win 5 games then let my team win 5 games, but the play the math game win trade. Player A uses a high ranked pvp toon to get player B low rank toon to Rival or higher in a weekend. Then player B takes that Rival toon and get an alt of player A up to Rival. etc

When SL launched, I was excited for PvP. I thought it was going to be great having the vendor, that I could be competitive playing only the content I wanted. I had no interest in M+/raids…

I quit PvP months ago because of how broken this game is. WoW is entirely focused around PvE, M+, and raiding. I quit PvP after months of playing SL attempting to get rated 1400+. I was very stressed. I did not enjoy the game.

Since I stopped attempting PvP, I feel much better now lol. I don’t play WoW much anymore though. Just login to do mission tables and that’s about it. Had a six month sub for a couple years now I might cancel. I just don’t play anymore…I feel like I wasted money on SL but am still wasting money on sub.

I just really hope PvP gets fixed in 9.1…maybe add some kind of balance where any class/spec can be competitive. Also, if versatility was only available on PvP gear and was WAY more effective, basically you NEED vers and M+ gear doesn’t give it to you. Maybe that’d save PvP? It’s dead to me right now though.

I don’t know enough about pvp or how the scores are calculated to have any sort of knowledgeable opinion, but my terrible-at-pvp-bear-butt went from ~1530 to 1600 last sunday in an evening of play.

we came up against one team that was clearly either the worlds best ~1600 team or a carry group. they stomped us. hard. they stomped us so hard there’s probably still us sized impressions in the ground from where they stomped us.

but other than that, we won some, we lost some, and at the end of the night I was 1600.

was I just lucky?

Could be, Hitting 1800 for us in 2’s wasn’t a matter of git gud, was just a matter of queueing into the comps we could actually, confidently beat.

It is intentional to keep only a specific percentile of players at each bracket.

Unfortunately blizz makes a lot of money from all the people buying WoW tokens to pay for boosts. This situation isn’t going away any time soon.

Depends on a lot of factor
Your cr
Your team mmr
The enemy team mmr
If your group is communicating on vc/if your players know each other
If your average ilvl is higher than the enemy team
If your comp is better suited for the maps you roll
How pug heavy the enemy teams were, etc

Theres luck involved but a lot of it is just playing smart and stacking the odds in your favour with a smart comp and good communication

(Also having more boomies than the other team helps)

It’s a figure of speech. At the beginning of the season there was no one at high rank, meaning any man and his dog could get there because it wasn’t full of actual good players, you could get easy wins against literally anyone and if you put in the time, it was a free rank up, more so if you done some PVE first and got some gear.

It’s the same at the start of every season, but at the start of the expansion no one has any gear, so if you pushed early and got the highest iLVL available (which wasn’t really that high) in PVE gear when the season first started you were almost certainly one of the strongest people doing arena.

Doing that against players who did not push PVE, or did not really know how to PVP, it meant you could get a good partner and very easily rank up. It will be harder in S2 because you will have mythic geared and 2.1K+ geared players, but the premises is the same, players who think they know PVP or want to try for the first time will join, you smash them for free and easy wins and easy ranks.

Later on when more and more PVP players are at higher ranks it becomes a game of skill more than a game of chance. And since this season has gone for so long and with all the carries, there are a ton of people geared and that makes it very hard, but a lot of those geared players are only doing well because of gear.

OP is still only normal raid level geared, no matter how good they become they will only get to a certain level, 204 vs. 220 and it’s no contest, the 220 should win, but that doesn’t mean OP cannot learn more about PVP and learn to be a better player and still do well to get some wins. I’ve seen a team of players all around 200 iLVL actually win against 220+ iLVL players. And also been in groups with 220+ iLVL who should have easily won, but were just garbage because PVP is not just about iLVL, it’s also about knowing how to PVP and how to play each map.

So explain to me how that counters the first post I made here. Are you assuming I was talking about the OP?

As much as I hate to agree with Akadruid, I have to hand it to him here.

:+1:

I can’t. Start of the season is when all the best players are playing and doing their initial push with their main teams.

The funny part is both of them completely miss the point of what I was saying. I think Akadruid misunderstood what was being said and Yesuna is just trolling.

Your highest rating is 1372?

Your RBG record is 29-37.

Are you sure you’re winning 3-4 games and only losing 1-2?

I’m a little tired of the game being so unrewarding just because a handful of people might abuse a better reward structure.

This sounds exactly like the OW forum. It’s not a ladder, it’s a see saw. You get to your max rank and you stay there unless you significantly improve or get carried.

rbgs are weird you get 1400 in one session thanks to those 100+ points per win and then you hit 1500+ and its like 15 points a win… arenas are faster at that point lol

basically YOLO groups are good up to ~1500 and then you gotta be a bit more selective/patient i think.

I think you need to maintain a 55~60% win rate to go up in rank (albeit slowly).

Climbing is a lot easier if you end up on a win streak, think to get out the permanent 1500~1700 seesaw at the end of BFA, ended up going for a 12 win streak.

Lotta bad math in that paragraph
