Clicking using the Steam Deck makes the camera jump

THE PROBLEM SUMMARY
The game’s camera jumps on mouse click with the Steam Deck touchpad.

  • Does not happen with external mouse.
  • Happens on both left and right touchpads of the Steam Deck.
  • Started only this past week since the latest update. Possibly caused by a bug in WOW’s controller support.

Any tips for me on how to fix or debug the issue would be appreciated.

WHAT I’VE DONE

  • Restarted the device (obviously)
  • Disabled any 3rd party apps in desktop mode
  • Installed updates for the Steam Deck
  • Ran the controller input test suite found in Steam > Settings > Controller > Test Controller Inputs
  • Tried different Proton versions: experimental and 7.0-6

MORE DETAILS
When the screen is clicked using the Steam Deck touchpad the camera jumps as if the mouse were clicking somewhere on the screen and instantly dragged to a different position. The problem is subtle and hard to diagnose but makes the game unplayable since a simple mouse click using the touchpad will whip the character around in a random direction.

I know it’s not conventional to play WOW on the steam deck and it hasn’t been verified, but it has worked flawlessly for the past 3 months until the past week. Because the problem started after a WOW update and it works fine with an external mouse, I suspect that it has something to do with WOW’s controller support and is likely not an issue with the Steam Deck exclusively.

I can see why this bug would be rare since not many people play WOW with a controller and even fewer use the touchpad on a controller, but it has rendered the game unplayable on the Steam Deck. If any recent updates have included modifications that could affect WOW’s controller support, specifically with mouse functionality, that might be a good place to start.

Again, any tips for me on how to fix or debug the issue would be appreciated.

Brilliant! Thanks for sharing. I’m hoping they push a fix for this soon.
