Does cleanse straight up replace purify as they both share a cd?
Not exactly, but kinda.
There are niche situations where you can use purify instead of cleanse, for example in pvp when your target has Unstable Affliction on them since purify won’t attempt to dispel that but will remove poisons and diseases.
For most cases yes, it’s just a spell upgrade.
The original divine protection was the same type of deal being upgraded into divine shield.
Cleanse is better as it also removed magic effects. Purify does not remove magic.
This is the way
Cleanse replaces purify. One can argue purify would still be useful to avoid triggering unstable affliction but you’re likely to never see this debuff in the first place. All the warlocks roll destruction, not affliction.
