The downside would be all the people who were RPing things that were outside of lore.
worgen anything TBH.
just delete them.
All race/class combos should happen, period.
Ok, that got me good lol
This.
Even then, no matter what Race, Group, Gender, Faith, etc, there is always “that guy”. As in “Do you see what that Guy is doing!!??” Or “I can’t believe that Guy is doing that!!!”
(Shyaelle this is not meant for you after this part, I’m speaking in general, and you and I are in complete agreement on this topic)
So maybe the lore combo that you say doesn’t exist, may not be for 99.99% of that Races population. They all may think “that guy” is a complete A-Hole and is making the rest of them look bad. But you will always have “that Guy” (and for the record I am using the word Guy as a generality, and not meant towards any specific group of whatever you are in an offensive or not inclusive manner)
The point being is that having the option to be “That Guy” should always be available, and since we don’t really exist in the lore anyway, why not just let other players play how they want to. There is no form of “doing it wrong”. They paid their box price and sub fee just like the rest of us so who are we as players to tell others how to play?
This would be the main one i wouldn’t care to see. I’ve never been a fan of the concept especially since Paladins killing undead has always been one of their big themes. I know there’s some NPC exceptions but in my opinion they should be the exceptions to the rule.
But even then, i wonder how many of these exceptions (Minus Sir Zeliek) are more so gameplay mechanics rather than actual Undead Paladins/Light Users. I’ll use the Undead Scarlets as a prime example here. I get the feeling from the ones in EPL that it was more so gameplay that they still used those spells (they didn’t bother to change the mobs abilities when they changed them to undead). The reason i say this is because there’s other mobs ingame who arent even Priests/Paladins that used Holy Light. I don’t know if it’s still the case, but for sometime i recall the Stromgarde Troll Hunters in Arathi would use Holy Light as well and it confused me for a moment.
In the case of the Scarlet undead though, even in the quests there the Argent commanders make comment that the now Undead Scarlets can’t even touch the Holy relics they’re protecting. It seems weird to me they’d make that comment if there’s a bunch of undead running around using holy abilities.
In the case of Scarlet undead, many of them deny that they are undead, even as you kill them. It was rather intentional, rather than a mechanic.
I would also note that the undead Scarlets couldn’t touch the relics they were protecting, because it was intensely painful. This did not stop them from moving the relics, however, as it did not kill them to relocate them and box them up. It also didn’t stop the undead paladins from being exactly that while claiming that they would purge you from the land, while surely experiencing horrible pain and channeling that into righteous fury.
Nothing is stoping RP’ers from maintaining their own restrictions; they think the undead shouldn’t be Paladins? No problem; don’t create one. Dwarf DH’s making them angry? Easy fix, don’t create one.
The best part about all of these other class combos being opened is that they’re optional! And if you create a combo someone else has a problem with, tell them to stick a Tel’Abim Banana “where the sun don’t shine” and to mind their own business.
I wish, wish that more people had this mentality right here. Yes, there is going to be THAT GUY.
Just don’t play with them. Or, give them a chance and find out that they’re cool after all.
But seriously, let THAT GUY be THAT GUY, and interact at your own risk. Everyone then has freedom of choice.
I really want a Draenei Druid, I had never even thought of that combo, but if they’re slowly going to work towards races not having restrictions/less restrictions…oooh man.
I wouldn’t call it a retcon. WC1 conjurers don’t predate those first mages.
I cracked open my manual (yes I still have it) out of curiosity and there is an interesting line for clerics in relation to all those “paladins are not priests, because priests use the light and paladins infuse their body with it” or however they put it,
“Their ability to channel the spirit of humanity through their bodies makes them truly wondrous”
You are absolutely right on this, there is an infusion done specifically to paladins that makes them what they are. It made them immune to the initial plague, and special methods had to be used to raise them into undeath.
Most paladins were raised as Death Knights, as this was their favorite way of twisting the paladins against their very nature.
There are still examples of undead paladins who stubbornly endure both the curse of undeath and the pain of their existence, which justifies the existence of the concept.
However, players aren’t even necessarily asking for this, specifically. Now that we have long proven the existence of Lightforged undead, as while Calia is special, Odyn’s Val’kyr are other examples of Lightforged undead that possess special traits. This would be a very specialized type of class, exclusive to rare and strong willed individuals.
Sound familiar? It should. The Void Elves exist under a similar concept. So, what would stop Blizzard from justifying the existence of stubborn individuals being granted an exclusive condition to justify players being able to explore the class in game?
Oh yeah, I should have mentioned that I’m 100% for free race/class combos in WoW because the lore has become such a joke
Maybe you should go play classic, or try a other MMO like Gw2 or FF14 if WoW is causing you to be so unhappy.
I played GW2 recently, and it’s pretty dang good! I just didn’t have it in me to get hooked into a different MMO, but it’s really a good game!
No one is pooping on you. You’re advocating for less choice for other players. You’re telling others that they’re playing it wrong. They paid the box price and sub fee just like you did, so who are you to tell them they deserve less options because you think it screws up the lore?
Blizzard doesn’t even keep their own lore accurate, so why get so bent out of shape about it. Either learn to enjoy the BBQ, or find another place to eat.
Maybe preventing some races from learning to be certain classes was part of the Jailer’s plan all along.
I don’t think you understand what homogenization means, my friend.
Having more options is less homogeneity.
Not more.
More of the same is homogeneous. Not unique.
Different is less homogeneity and unique.
But you do you and feel free to unsubscribe over someone else enjoying the game.
If you’re only in it for lore purposes–there’s books out there.
What kind of response is this? I just agreed with you
He is, after all, deceptively cunning
This is so wrong it’s not even funny.
Making all races the exact same with no cultural difference is making everything the same. That’s homogenizing.
Literally nothing is different when every race is made the same.
“Don’t like it, leave” is the stupidest argument anyone could try to make in this conversation.
I’m glad people like you don’t make the decisions at Blizzard. Change is coming for the better, embrace it or be washed away in the tide :^)
