Class/Race Combos & Player Customization

We should’ve gotten new race/class combos a long time ago! Like maybe during WoD or Legion.

Still waiting on my Human Shaman.

I just want to play a Tidepriest that doesn’t look like they’ve used their elemental powers to eat all the fish in the ocean. :pensive:

It’s almost like the Night Elves have been out for Retribution for a while now.

You could, fairly easily, take animals that already exist in-game and implement them; maybe making minor tweaks here and there if you really need to.

ie. Lions for Human cat form, Panthara for Draenai, Manasabers for Nightborn, Tigers for Pandaren, Lynx for Blood Elves, etc.

Honestly I think it’s less work than people think.

This literally does not apply.
You can already transform into Goblin and Worgen via toys as a Monk player and the animations work fine. I truly don’t understand why people bring animations up as a preventative for things like this.

Hell, even back in Mists they had a general amount of their animations done just for the transformation toys. It wasn’t really an issue with their old skeletons not being compatible. Even looking through the WoWhead Dressing room, you can see that they have tons of their animations available!

Yeah, it seems to not be the case anymore for giving monk to races that don’t have them. It’s also weird to me you would deny a race rogue but then still give them a unique stealth animation, and all the rogue attack animations.

As far as druid forms go, it really wouldn’t take much work to reskin existing forms for a lot of the requested druid races. Even if it was dwarf, blood elf, and human. You could easily reskin the night elf forms for blood elves, take existing cat animals in Dun Morgoh for dwarves, and reskin kul’tiran forms for humans like was mentioned above. They already have all the casting animations so :man_shrugging:

On my Paladin, I used the token of many faces and it turned into a night elf. Every animation was there for the Paladin retribution spec. Correct me if I am wrong, but nearly every race has some common skeleton/animations?

Pretty much!
Even for caster animations. As an example, Night Elves have the Shaman Animations in case a toy is used to make you appear as a Shaman.

This was put in place ever since the caster animation overhaul. But on that end, it’s more so that the system can accommodate the animations so nothing breaks or has to use the default animations when transformed.

Maybe part of the issue is that they might feel the need for justified story or dialogue for the new class and race combos? They don’t need much if you ask me.

Edit: with the new starter zone they could add the dialogue in there, it’s perfect! It doesn’t need much more than a little mention.

Hell, some don’t even need explanations!

As an example, it took until the Cataclysm until humans could be hunters.
And the lore explanation for Sunwalkers was short, sweet, and explained enough.
I can’t vouch for how much effort went into writing the sunwalker lore, but at least it gave enough info for people looking into why the Tauren could be Paladins and Priests.

See my edit above, that beginning stage would be perfect imo.

I think they just make it an option for Kul Tirans to have skinny and regular size bodies. That would solve the human shaman issue in a lore-friendly way

I dont see why they couldn’t add a few for SL or even pre patch…? If the animations are already present.

Maybe just no new druids/Demon Hunters till they are ready to perfect the forms.

That still leaves quite a few options!

CAN CONFIRM

I tried the coin and ended up with BE Shaman, Goblin monk, Tauren Warlock, Human Druid on my alliance characters.

Worgen Shaman, Pandaren druid, Dranei druid on horde characters.

Some classes were too low level to check many skills though.

As a fan of disguises most races have most of the class animations. The non-playable races tend to not have animations for monks or demonhunters. Demonhunters have special animations and sometimes they use another animation, blade dance is set to always be your base race as well unless your disguise is flagged as blood elf or night elf.

Yeah I was more interested in checking non-dh and non-druid - as those will def require alot of work to open up.

But the rest? Seem good to go. Just need to allow it through lore.

They like to set it up. I wished they would add more race/class comboes to shadowlands besides the dks. I love them and all but I would like more shamans druids and paladins!

Yeah, the DK’s were actually a really nice addition, and it made sense to add them if they were hyping up Bolvar as much as they have been.

And I know I’m biased towards Goblin Monks, but I feel like Monks are on the same level as Warriors and Hunters where in reality anyone could learn to be one with enough effort.

I was pretty surprised that Night elf Paladins weren’t announced at all. They purposefully set up nelf Paladins in legion and haven’t followed up on that since.

The horde at this point has super diverse races for Paladins, alliances feels a bit dull in comparison (dwarves and humans feel semi similar). Night elves would make that a bit better.

They said no to zandalari but people brought up the fact there were prelate NPCs in the game so after a while they made Zandalari Paladins. However in the case of night elves they purposefully put that into the story and showed how becoming a night elf Paladin is entirely possible. This might be pushing it but they could have white-looking spells to represent Elune since that’s the god/deity they’re devoted to and that’s what makes most of a Paladin to begin with.

TLDR: Night elf Paladins make sense, we’ve seen an in game example from start to finish. Please add them!

I mean it’s not just Delas either. There was a really long quest chain back in original Felwood where you help a female night elf paladin escape and fight the Shadow Council. So this isn’t a new occurrence and they reference that in Delas’ flashback talking to her ancestors who were also paladins.

It’s long overdue for many race class combinations to be added and Shadowlands is the perfect time to do it.
