Actually, worgen and goblin also already have rig for all the monk animations. I’ve tried both with appearance changers. Worgen also have rig for paladin animations.
Hell, if we wanna go further back. Even the old Goblin/Worgen models had like, 1/2 of all the animations done.
And then of course vulpera who share the goblin skeleton have all their completed animations.
I’m going to voice some opposition on the topic. I think expanding race/class combos dilutes racial identities. They already did a massive expansion giving Death Knights to everyone which I think was a mistake.
This ^. If you want to play a specific class, pick the race that lines with playing the class as an alt. Simple. The ‘anything goes’ class/race combos should NOT be supported.
I was hoping for new race class combos in the absence of a new class, and was slightly disappointed to find they weren’t doing it. It’s not necessarily a high effort thing to do (druid forms aside).
I’d have loved it especially for the allied races, many of whom are very limited. LFDs and HMTs are particularly low on classes, followed closely by nightborne and mechagnomes.
They should just let us pick any class with any race.
When we went to Pandaria, we learned how to be Monks from the Pandaren there. Why is that totally fine, but a Dwarf going around and learning Druidism is impossible?
Maybe it’s not lore supported but I would love nightborne druids.
I would be a night elf in a heartbeat if they weren’t alliance
I can understand the devs hesitation to not want to allow more combinations. And yeah, as I’ve said earlier, restrictions can strengthen the flavor of the races because it shows what they prioritize as a culture.
But for the classes that are more traditional in nature (Warriors/Hunters/Monks)
There really isn’t any reason why they shouldn’t be available to every race.
I don’t really see what the game benefits from restricting some of the more obvious stuff.
Why could a Blood Elf, who were typically pretty posh, and high maintenance (Guards would make fun of you for asking where the mining trainer is) become rugged trackers who could tame wild beasts.
But Humans, who can typically fit any mold in Fantasy stories, couldn’t until the Cataclysm happened? (Hell, iirc Nathanos was a pretty important ranger dude before the advent of Human Hunters being playable)
Plus, reiterating on my earlier point of NPC’s having access to these class/race combinations before Players do. What does it really remove from the races identity if the combination already exists?
I am someone who is in favor of class restrictions for races when it adds to the flavor of the game, I think it’s one of the neat things about WoW. However, I only like it when it makes sense.
I agree with a lot of what’s posted in the OP, but to throw my own hat into the ring, I think worgen should be paladins. Gilneans were around and fought in the Second War, when Paladins became a thing and kept contact with the Alliance for a while after that, definitely enough time for someone to have learned how to be a paladin or for a paladin to join Gilneas. The curse doesn’t prevent the usage of the light, and it doesn’t seem like something that would restrict being a paladin either, because as we’ve seen evil people can be paladins, it’s just the conviction to call upon the light in that way. There’s no lore reason worgen couldn’t be paladins, in fact there are lore reasons in favor of them being paladins, so I’d love to be able to play one.
Their Divine Steed could just be the human version, or better yet some light-radiating version of Running Wild since worgen on horses look a little goofy.
That’s another thing! Yeah, Tyrant Velhari is an Eredar Paladin, so evil characters can still become Paladins.
And Hearthstone has Worgen Paladins as well!
The Lightfang Enforcers are Worgen wearing Paladin Tier gear!
Well they gave the alliance my race but still didn’t give them druids. So can the horde have night elves and get druids?
I agree with some points but then there’s one I’d like to address.
As long as you can agree that the races of this world can change and evolve. We saw the Blood Elves go from arcane addicted to the rebirth of the Sunwell using divine and arcane in 1 xpac. But since then their story has been evolving and within their castes nature has become a larger part. The Farstriders have left Silvermoon because they don’t agree with the Magisters full reliance on arcane magic. The Farstriders have turned to rely on nature more and are trying to break away from arcane completely. Even the race page for Blood Elves states they are moving away from a dependence on arcane as a race, but that some are still holding on to it.
We don’t seem all humans to be demon worshippers just because they have warlocks. Or that they are all entranced by arcane because of the mage quarter. They have different factions within their society which makes up many different classes and tenets within their society like with most races.
So I feel that druidism is a next step for the blood elves. And as I’ve stated in earlier posts in the thread there are avenues to facilitate it rather easily.
Oh yeah, for sure.
I mentioned a bit earlier that if the time skip for Azeroth theory happens by the time we finish with the shadowlands, pretty much anything could change depending on how much time passes.
Cultures could change, priorities could shift, and the world could change a lot depending on how much time passes while we’re around the shadowlands.
I wouldn’t cite hearthstone as a justification for anything considering it also has things like undead Anduin.
There are however existing undead paladin NPCs in game, like Scarlet Commander Marjhan.
Mishka isn’t a rogue, she’s a medic.
There are however several Draenei pirates in the Rogue order hall.
Well one of the original Four Horsemen was Sir Zeliek who was so strong with the light in life he was able to use it in death. And then there’s Whitemane who can also do that as well.
And Mishka is a member of SI:7 and can stealth. She’s more than likely a rogue. Also with old Draenor the Rengari were pretty much all rogues and rangers which use stealth. And the main argument is that Draenei can’t stealth with hooves, but yet…
My argument for worgen paladins is pretty simple:
Worgen can still use the Light (priests). Gilneans had Paladins ages ago. Humans have always had Paladins. Worgen are cursed humans. Worgen are no longer feral and have turned back to the Light, as they rejoined the Alliance.
Let worgen be paladins.
There’s no reason to not let Kul’Tirans be paladins, either - they’re all humans.
I wish gnomes could be every class - if we could, I’d have nothing but gnomes.
I especially wish for a gnome druid - would love a little kitten feral druid form, it’d be sooooo cute.
Oh I firmly believe that every race with access to swords and priests should have paladins.
But Hearthstone is a bad argument for it.
Defender Illona can stealth when she’s bodyguarding me. That doesn’t make her a rogue.
Mishka isn’t any class, she’s a non-combatant.
That’s a bit different though, that’s really just the game adapting to not hinder you.
The draenei NPCs were made to be in stealth or were placed in stealth by blizzard specifically for that role to play as a rogue.
