Classic's success will forever change retail for the better

Yes, tossing out insults is definitely the best way to approach a discourse.

It’s always the level 110’s who think themselves the arbiters of truth.

Don’t like wow don’t play it I guess. I’m enjoying myself. Breaks I’ve taken in wow has always had more to do with my real life obligations more than anything else. Taking a break and coming back is not a bad thing.
It’s healthy to do a variety of things which includes playing other games or none at all.

Where did I insult you directly? oh wait, I didn’t; Nice straw man.

Again, I look at the quantitative and qualitative data… you are basing your opinion on your feelings and bias towards the game. I don’t dislike current WoW, was it better in previous years? without a doubt.

The amount of feedback (negative) towards this expansion is a great indicator that this is not a direction that WoW should take if they are to retain or bring back subs. Money talks… subs being down is the best form of negative feedback for the game.

Video-games are far more playable now than they were 15 years ago. Cheaper/better pcs to run games, not having to play on dial-up (those were the days), etc… if WoW were to go back to the direction is had in WoTLK I’d bet a good amount of money that subs would go up… despite it being an old game and all the other reasons you listed.

Potentially, sure, but not guaranteed.

Also players like to overblow and exaggerate their issues with the game constantly to make it seem like it’s the -end of the world- that they have to do something like, ya know… Play the game like a normal player?

I don’t put much stock into most complains from users these days, because 90% of it’s try hard “raiders” who are angry that casual people get rewarded epics, or “pro-flight” people who are enraged at the fact they have to actually play the game to be able to fly.

There’s also people that just don’t want to pay a monthly sub to play a game.

There’s plenty of other games that are free to play, or buy once and done.

The gaming world has shifted quite alot since WoTLK has been out, there’s no actual hard evidence to show that it’d be just as popular then as it is now, mostly because people these days prefer to not pay subscriptions at all if they can.

Giving feedback to why people are unhappy/quitting is a valid form of customer feedback… regardless of how they go about it. These people are all active subs, and losing them hurts the company, as displayed in the quarterly financials. The fact that Ion recently admitted that over pruning is an issue… this should tell you that they are hurting and have had to listen to the feedback that came in many forms (the main one being an exodus of subs).

There were plenty of F2P games around when WoW came out, and the idea of a monthly fee ON TOP of retail price was somewhat unheard of for a lot of people.

The history of private servers? You mean the consistent hundreds of thousands that still play them?

Still looking for a source though.

The history of how many start playing on pirate servers for FREE and then stop. I am sure you can find that information since you seem to be able to come up with a number of people still playing them.

That is the nature of Classic versions of stuff. Hell, I grabbed a few PSX roms the other day and absolutely launched into them, nostalgia was high, I was hitting up the games that I played to death as a kid. I’m still playing through one and it is a good time killer, nostalgia is definitely still there and it is fun to replay this dinosaur, but the thought definitely exists of “Wow this is some old school grindy crap with not a lot of payoff.”

Posting in a 100% opinionated thread lol.

Woosh… comma man arrives… tosses commas to Caraz. Comma man away!!!

If classic is overwhelmingly popular, Activision will open a cash store for it lol. Activision just can’t help themselves.

that is just wrong, private servers have a few thousand players left. lightshope has an extremely loose definition of who they call “active” too

you only have to log on once in a three month period to meet that

No thanks retail does not need a lol ret spec.

And we expect bugs to be fixed.

And we want new content not nostalgic content.

And we dont want to be playing the exact same spec tree 15 years later.

I could go on.

Your cart’s in Colorado but your horse is still in South Carolina. Let’s make sure WoW classic doesn’t die of dysentery before we call it an “overwhelming success.”

What if they announce more servers to meet the demand? Wouldn’t that prove that there’s more interest in classic than you guys on the forum claim?

What if classic failed and then retail failed.

Lots of what if’s these days. Really not worth the effort to get into these kinds of discussions.

Well said my server is super crammed lately as well.

What if?
What should this mean?
Are we in a prestigious competition?
If classic gets to the point of needing more servers, is that bad for retail?
Is it any demerit for retail?

And any permission for the league of dinosaurs to walk around with their high noses, congratulating themselves, feeling superior to retail players, which they should have even forgotten about?

I don’t understand why the desperation of classic folks to come to GD to preach things like this!
Are you afraid of not having so many people to play the Jurassic version of Warcraft?

If it is a success, then it will be considered a success after the release and not before!

The only concerned people, fanatically claiming in GD that classic will be a hit, are people who apparently don’t seem content to indoctrinate it in the classic forum itself.

Classic is not as amazing as its worshipers desperately want to make everyone believe it is!

It has its virtues but also its limitations!

He has fewer classes than we have today, fewer races than we have today, and fewer things in general than we have today!

Was there the flight?
People will really treat each other better magically because they are playing a version remastered from 15 years?

This won’t stop people who have a passion for the classic version of warcraft having fun with it, but there is nothing in it that appeals to me!

none of the available races interests me!
The history of this version has already been lived!
this lore has already been lived!!

I love pandaria but would not play a version of it again! I want to see the story go on and not repeat it indefinitely!

As you are making assumptions, what about;
where the direction of the retail will be if Classic is found a failure?
