ClassicLFG addon

And that’s not really what the addon does, and that’s why it’s staying.

Doesn’t everyone win?

show me a third party community expressly forbidden and acted upon.

i cite wowprogress which has its own recruitment mechanisms. EJ had forums for recruitment and the leader of EJ is the PM for wow classic. daft much?

Even wowhead did an article on it.

Guess who’s side they took?

i actually said this all the time, as long as its a chat parser, i personally have nothing agaisnt it… my gripe was the automated functions the addon had the potnetial to do, there were even versions of it that did just this…

as a chat parser with no autofuntions, you will still have to manualy add and respond to everyone, and being at a clear disadvantage to those actually making friends…

so if that is what you win, yes everyone wins !

see that’s the truly bizarre aspect of this. there’s no side really. Blizzard created vanilla. vanilla supported the creation of this and many addons like it. Blizzard is creating classic and claims to want it to be like vanilla. Disallowing this addon functionality that was clearly there from the onset means negating a core feature of vanilla.

it is just bizarro world

go watch blizzcon, and their vision for classic wow, they said back then, they will make huge changes to the API…

“in order to make the classic client match our reference vanilla client as closely as possible”

The addon really only did that automation for large scale PvP, it wasn’t intended for dungeons.

But yeah I just want it as a stripped down version of the premade finder, I just want level and location like /who

Think we have been on the same page the entire time haha. Have a good morning/night!

You make the assumption I don’t talk to anyone or even attempt to, I get in and try chatting and its like talking to a wall most keys. And it is exactly because of the mindset things like this have instilled in the playerbase over the games lifespan.

Screw me for actually caring about Classic and not wanting to taint it with the seeds of the retail mindset right, seems a lot of people like you don’t want Classic you want Classic Lite edition.

Well, as has been stated before, two aspects of this addon are the problem: the auto invite for custom groups which can be abused and the ability to only communicate with players addon to addon and not use the lfg or other chat channels. As far as the other parts of the addon, since they won’t be creating artificial communities Blizz will probably eventually let those pass.

mhmmm, and taking something out of context is a great way, to not make a point… you know as well as i, that the API we had back then is very difrent from the API we are getting…

See you are talking down to me even though I actually played vanilla, and unless you are on another account you didn’t. I know how Vanilla was, and of course you aren’t getting into conversations you are doing +10’s those are faceroll easy, try pushing your rating up and you will see the need to use discord and plan out routes actually be necessary.

nothing was taken out of context. those are blizzard’s words regarding reported bugs that were debunked.

the apis are different but sendchatmessage and hooking whispers has been in since day one

mhmmm and again, their going to change and keep changing things… their blue responce is one proof of this, and blizzard even doing a responce of this, is how bad they probably think it is ?

yea but the issue there is the entire function being used that ‘creates a private community’ is a function call in the blizzard api sendaddonmessage introduced in 1.12. it was expressly designed to separate (spammy) addon traffic from user created traffic because prior to that addons had to talk in global channels any user could read if he knew the name.

addons since day one have had functionality specific to their addon not viewed elsewhere. how about your personal wishlist for atlasloot so you know where items you want to drop are located?

if they didnt want limited communities personal chat channels would have never existed in vanilla in the first place and only trade/lfg would have existed (or meeting stones)

Now we can get back to the real issues at hand, like why blizzard isn’t showing player corpse skeletons.

Personal chat channels, at least the ones I used, weren’t created or managed by an addon. They were channels I created in game and manually invited friends to who weren’t in the guild, a channel for my hunters in raiding so we could talk without filling up raid or guild chat, etc. Now I’m not saying addons didn’t manage these in early WoW. If they did I never heard about them.

But two other things to consider about this debate. The first, while addons like CTA did exist and the broken meeting stones the were mostly ignored, they weren’t in the game at launch. Servers had a chance to find their identity as time when on. If we start adding things that share parallels with retail WoW, even in a striped down form right out of the gate, it’s basically saying “despite the fact we wanted Classic we are actually ok with retail mechanisms.” That is not what people who have been advocating for Classic since the private servers got shut down want, nor many players that wish to play Classic.

The second thing to consider, and this is of a more personal nature for players, is that many people hate retail but love WoW. The universe, lore, old gameplay, the fond memories that formed, the feel of their server, etc. But for many, retail is a bad taste in the mouth that no amount of brushing can remove. I don’t hate on players that like retail, it’s there for those that want to play it with all the systems that have developed over the years, for good or bad. Many Classic “purists” don’t want anything that resembled retail style mechanisms in the game. Classic is meant to be a refuge they can still play WoW in without all the things they hate about retail.
