A very bold move, Cotton. At the risk of extreme backlash for pressing people’s faces to the dirt for what they should and shouldn’t be allowed to make decisions for, you’ve also maintained the purity of what is arguably a very heated contingent. The LFG system is what many would determine being the downward trend for WoW - I for one am exceedingly happy that there won’t be the risk of the community pseudo-forcing the adoption of the LFG addon, as they did with the item-level addons in WotLK, but I’m am also shocked by how stern a decision this is. For once, Blizzard is showing some spine. Bravo, good job.
And to the addon developers? No hard feelings. It looked like a really good quality addon, sincerely. Hopefully your talent and passion is able to go towards something more friendly to the Classic community as a whole that can be enjoyed by all. Thank you for your efforts regardless.
Meeting stones required you to physically go to the instance or, later, a nearby innkeeper. The meeting stone logic also had a tendency to make groups that lacked a tank or healer, or often both. It isn’t even remotely comparable.
What changes are going to be made to prevent this addon? You must tell the dev community how you’re going to do it as it will undoubtedly effect other, unrelated addon, and we need time to work around your changes.
Down with that being the line there. If an addon creates an enviroment where everyone is expected to have it then the addon probably has crossed the line. Be it in Live or in Classic.
They could remove just the “auto-invite” part of the addon and the stat profiling and it would conform to their “rules” and continue to exist as a better filtered grouping addon than just spamming chat endlessly.
It included a (bare with me on the comparison), gearscore-esque system where it would pull everyone in the groups specs. These types of systems, as gearscore did in BC, create a ‘requirement’ system for people to meet certain criteria to join the party for members to ‘ensure’ they waste minimal amounts of time clearing dungeons and raids ‘more effectively’ (in their minds).
