ClassicLFG addon

I haven’t assumed the worst yet, I’ll wait until Blizz actually clarifies, I just don’t think it’s too much to ask in advance for that clarification, so that way addon authors can plan ahead, much as the other poster mentioned.

Trying to guess at what Blizzard’s “vision for Classic” is, that’s not an easy guideline to follow. Especially considering we’re not working with the Blizz of 2004 here. I remember direct communication from the devs specifically involved with the API back then. If something this level had come up back then, we would have been talking to the people who were making the change about how they intended to make it. It happened when we lost a lot of the automation. It happened when protected classes and functions became a thing.

Also, and I hate to say it, but this kind of addon would have been completely possible back in vanilla. If someone had just decided to add an auto-invite mechanic as a response to a whisper to Call to Arms, then this would have been extremely functionally close to what I am seeing with this new addon. So us assuming that we can follow the logic of “Classic Experience”, could be a detrimental assumption to make. Again, I don’t care if this addon specifically gets broken, I care about how that affects other developers.

Not saying the sky is falling, but clarification on what specifically is being modified would help a lot.

Whoa some of them are still crying about the news. Hope they get over it in the next 2 days so they can at least enjoy the launch.

Revisionist history. It didn’t come out till 1.11 and was rarely used because not many knew of it. It didn’t become more mainstream until BC, but we’re not going to be playing in TBC servers for at least 2 more years.

I love you so much, Classic team.

Holy moly! After spending an entire night posting about why this addon was bad I hadn’t expected to come home and see that Blizzard agreed with our reasoning! I must say I’m astonished and incredibly pleased by the Classic Dev team and their decision. Lok’tar Ogar!

You mean like how you’re being right now and then in a few weeks you realize the only thing they break is addon communication and people still keep using the addon with just its chat parsing/posting features and are perfectly happy with the addon as it continues to function in the only way they cared about anyway?

Except that this was absolutely nothing like dungeon finder. And it did nothing that wasn’t not only allowed in classic, but intentionally allowed to remain in the game, even after their sweeps of disabling things addons can do.

Pick a side. are you #nochanges, or are you siding with changes. Because now, you’ve lost every arguing point against adding transmog or class balance, or any QOL changes.

Lol cry more

Auto-inviting was specifically allowed in vanilla’s API. Addons did this. People used them.

And parsing talents was being removed by the creator.

Sunlight, I find you a very refreshing and reasonable voice in the Maelstrom. I do appreciate everything you have contributed. I learned from you and so I thank you.

Thank you Blizzard! Me and my wife’s son are so excited to play together and to make groups the traditional way, just like back in le olde days! His mother has already agreed to come bring us chicken tendies as we bond over Classic!

I’m literally crying over this! Thank you so much Blizzard!!

uhm the addon existed in molten core before bwl even opened. most of the raiding community knew about it from the vanilla R&D forums. if you didnt you played with blinders on.

He wasn’t removing it. He was adding a toggle option.

Teehee! Sorry retail-lite folks but big daddy blizzard has the final say on the matter!

lol by all means man I was an actor for a bit in High School. I can be whatever obscure forum guy you want me to be?

Exactly what i’ve been feeling! Because a ton of addons, like MRP, were actively involved in classic for some people. I get why people dont want this addon, granted it just comes off to me as fear of the community being too weak to just not use it? But other addons that were used back then shouldn’t necessarily be broken in the same way. Like you said, it would be nicer if they gave us a warning in advance on how they’re doing it, so aforementioned MRP and TRP can hopefully still work, or they’ll be able to get feedback.

I feel like gloating, that’s all. Someone who disrespects people like he did doesn’t deserve anything but the same back.

That’s explicitly what they’ve said they won’t support. I truly, honestly believe that if you want an LFG addon you should stick to retail. It has no place in Classic, regardless of what seldom-used addons existed in Vanilla.

Classic LFG isn’t anything like retail LFG. Did you use the LFG/LFM system in BC and Wrath? Because that is exactly how Classic LFG works (minus the OPTIONAL auto invite which the addon dev could take out if he wanted to). Call to Arms was in classic, but you all seem to conveniently forget that.

Anyways, enjoy joining a discord server to find groups.

Hahahaha. Alright.

Everyone throw your arms out wide and bathe in the salty tears of the retail noobs. Aaaahhh it feels good. Gonna have to roll up their sleeves and do things the way it’s meant to be done. Idc if a similar add on was back then. Almost 0 ppl used it, making it essentially non existent anyway. So cry away! Blizzard has spoken and we were right. Ma feels.

It’s over man. Take a deep breath. I’m sure there is some other retail cause you can champion between now and launch.
