If an individual could download an addon that made their mount fly would they be allowed to?
Blizzard has to take a stance on what addons are allowed to do. It is not simply a “my choice” or a “if you don’t want it then don’t download it, dur” issue.
The features that addons bring into the game can and do affect others. It’s just all about where Blizzard wants to draw the line. Personally, I believe they made the right call on this one.
weakauras i would agree with breaking. Vuhdo wont have clickhealing, its just raidframes. DBM existed in vanilla. you’ve literally just shown you are part of an angry mob shouting "ban them all’ without having any facts.
LFG addons existed in 2005 though, so when he says “Came LATER” he is absolutely wrong. It was already in vanilla, less than a year after Vanilla had even dropped.
Considering you’re confined to one server, nothing would ever work quite like that in Classic even with auto inviting addons. In phase 1 you’d maybe could find some people on another layer to do a quest with. Even in phase 1 you’ll have a dramatically smaller playerbase to potentially group with compared to Legion/BfA where you have an entire region to find players to faceroll your WQ with.
Blizz: We don’t like VANILLA WOW’s ability to allow user choice. So here you go in the spirit of our fake vanilla. Remember when they said sure spell batching and latency will feel odd for a lot of people as it plays different that if you had 200ms than if you have 40ms latancy. But the experience for those who have 40ms should be similar.
What about the spirit of Classic wow for this? See this is a subjective thing, which is Blizz’s right. But at least im going to point out that the “Spirit of Classic wow” line is bull.
If you actually read Bornakk’s post, it’s not about the addon being “in vanilla” or not; it’s about addons being against the idea of Vanilla. Nobody signed up for Classic thinking “oh, I hope there’s an LFG in this!”.
I’m hyped because I love addons, but this one seemed ones step closer to full blown dungeon finder.
This addon would have unintended consequences to how the community interacts with each other if it gets to big.
Think of how when people are in the middle of a dungeon, and how much more willing the community as a whole are to boot a player who’s struggling instead of helping him. All because they can just pull up their app and get a new person instead of having to journey to a city or ask around.
It begins the path towards just turning each player you meet through an auto name-gathering screen into another npc in the game.
People argue that how the group forms doesn’t matter. The real social aspect of the game is the actual dungeon run. To an extent this is true, and also depends on the group of players themselves that are running the dungeon.
But if that was completely true, then why is retail lacking the social dynamics of that vanilla did? I believe it’s in part because it’s so easy to find and/or replace players.
