There was a question mentioned in the Classic Discussion Forum concerning the Lord Kazzak griefing policy and whether it would be the same, similar, or dissimilar to the historical policy. The historical policy can be obtained at https://web.archive.org/web/20050525020704/http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.aspx?fn=blizzard-archive&t=27&p=1&tmp=1#post27.
PVE Ruleset
When a group of players has engaged Lord Kazzak, any other players interfering in the encounter may be given a warning, regardless of faction , as in the examples below:
A group of Alliance characters has legitimately engaged Lord Kazzak and a level 1 Horde character engages Lord Kazzak as well (Level 1 Horde player receives warning).
A group of Horde characters has legitimately engaged Lord Kazzak and a level 1 Horde character engages Lord Kazzak as well (Level 1 Horde player receives warning).
PVP Ruleset
When a group of players has engaged Lord Kazzak, any same-faction players interfering in the encounter may be given a warning as in the examples below:
A group of Alliance characters has legitimately engaged Lord Kazzak and a level 1 Alliance character engages Lord Kazzak as well (Level 1 Alliance player receives warning).
However, when a group of players has engaged Lord Kazzak, any players of the opposing faction interfering in the encounter are free to do so as a PVP resolution is available to the “victims.”
A group of Alliance characters has legitimately engaged Lord Kazzak and a level 1 Horde character engages Lord Kazzak as well (No warnings given).
I anticipate that the policy will be virtually the same as it was in vanilla. I was unable to locate definitive information from a search through the support website except for the PvP Harassment policy, but it does not sufficiently address the concerns listed. I made the post here to receive clarification since this will be a GM enforcement issue. Additionally, I would like to open the discussion beyond Lord Kazzak alone to outdoor raid boss encounters (including Lord Kazzak, Azuregos, Green Dragons, etc.).
Any elucidation is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your assistance. If a final decision has not been made regarding outdoor raid boss policy, I understand!
That is entirely possible, Vokire, but at the moment we have no official word on how the policies will work. Since it is being discussed in the Classic Discussion forum it is possible a Community Manager will be able to provide more information.
Customer Support will likely know more closer to launch, and very possibly will have Support Articles that will provide specifics.
Ah! OK. Sorry for the inconvenience - I thought the policy would have been ironed out already and ready haha. I’ve informed the other poster of your response and we will await a response to their thread by a community manager! Thank you for your rapid response!
P.S. I recognize it’s technically off-topic of my post, but I hope you’re doing well! You may not remember me as a poster (Jemman, Semaravene [maybe?], and Molotos)! I’m happy to see you’re still here! I hope you still enjoy the CSF! Maybe you still get to reconnect with previous CSF Blizzard posters like Pavonum, Kaone, Auryk, etc. Stay well, friend!
Molotos sounds the most familiar, but names tend to get jumbled around if it’s been awhile. In either case, I’m glad to see you are around.
I’m glad to be around still as well. Though my team has ventured into Twitter and other social channels, I’m glad that we get to keep a presence in the CS forum still. Pav I haven’t talked to in a while, though I understand he is doing well. Kaone is around at Blizzard still, though on a different team. Auryk I talk to just the other day, it was his birthday and it is bad form not to wish a turtle a happy birthday.
What? You don’t remember me off the top of your head from 12+ years ago? Haha. I think, when I was posting, I predated you slightly. It’s been like 12 years or so since then so I forget all of the details haha. I had started posting back when Sonic was still around under the name Jemman and became a “CSF Knife”. I think I was something else and jumped two ranks in that classification. Eventually Krypter came around and I was posting fairly heavily under my character Molotos (Blood Elf Male Paladin, realm: Terokkar). I had made a guide “How to Secure Your Computer” in late 2007 I think and I kept that updated for a few years haha.
It took me slightly longer than I would have liked, but I found proof that I existed! https://web.archive.org/web/20071220002523/http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=1778038509&sid=1 It wasn’t a delusion after all! Haha. The guide has my character’s portrait (default for BE males) that may help jog your memory somewhat https://web.archive.org/web/20071123130134/http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=2720263983. Although you may start to remember and decide you didn’t like me
Oh really? I’ve never been a big Twitter user, myself haha. I have never been able to get into it too terribly well. I am happy Pavonum is doing well. I think I remember him leaving because he had finished his bachelor’s degree in English? I remember he liked “vouched for veracity” instead of “quoted for truth” haha. I’m happy Kaone is still there as well, albeit in a different department haha.
I hope Auryk had a great birthday! He was one of the few (only?) of the CSF agents that I remember moving to Austin when that campus opened up long ago. It’s nice to stroll down memory lane sometimes! Classic has brought back a lot of memories for me, in general, and has been a pretty good experience within that capacity. It’s interesting, to me, to see how we evolve and change over time. It’s even more interesting how we remain the same despite those same evolutions and changes.
Until something is said officially, I’d recommend following the previous policy.
Overall, as with most policies in-game (and in real life), the general thought is don’t be a jerk. If another group gets the Kazzak tag, wait and see if they succeed or wipe. If they wipe, you can take your shot.
We really need an official stance on same faction griefing. There are reports of Kazzak wiping occuring, though i have not seen this. One alliance guild on my server, however, used the Azuregos reset trick to steal the tag from another alliance guild that had him at 50%.
If these actions are actionable, Blizzard needs to let the playerbase know. Otherwise, the new meta will be to grief your own faction until you get the tag and then hope you can secure the kill.
Regardless, Blizzard had a visible policy for this during Vanilla. Vrakthris alludes to this and states that they will likely have support articles to address it. World bosses are out. As of now we don’t have this information, and we need it. Their decision will affect how guilds handle world boss encounters moving forward.
The problem is, Kazzak is a different situation than other world bosses, because of Capture Soul. It really is a case-by-case basis. What if someone from the same faction is genuinely trying to help down the boss and accidentally dies? Where’s the threshold of being helpful, and trying to disrupt their attempt?
As for Azuregos, what you call a “reset trick” sounds like a bug that needs to be reported. I’ve never heard of it (and please don’t explain it, because we don’t want to advertise such a method if it is actionable), and it doesn’t sound like something that’s intended.
Overall, there’s nothing stopping you from reporting. Whether there’s a support article or not, they will investigate and you’re not going to be told the outcome of any investigation. If you think something, anything is a rules violation, you can report it. If it’s not a violation, then nothing will come from it.
