bfa broke their records of box sales and sold what was 3.4-3.5 MILLION THE VERY FIRST DAY. obviously it was popular. you didn’t have to pay for classic at all. and a lot of people who play classic will go back to retail once there’s new content in it. it’s the “retail tourists” who mess around on classic during down time. the thing that classic players are so afraid of. and why they attack ANYONE who isn’t totalluh #nochanges who posts on the classic forums with “go back to retail.”
you know i like both games. but let’s be real.
Yes, BFA had a lot of first day players. But we are well past the first day.
There are a lot of people who only pay their sub to play Classic.
i’m just saying if there had been a box cost as well as a sub cost for only classic that was $15 a month you’d see a lot less people playing it. tbh i pay for two games right now and get classic for free. i wouldn’t pay for it myself if that were the case. i’d pay for retail and ff. but as it sits when my in game bff gets on and wants to mess around with classic i can- because it’s free.
I mean, maybe. There are a crapload of people on board for Classic man, and not just to play it as a tourist mode. I play a couple of hours of Classic a week so I don’t know if I’d buy it out right and pay for its own monthly sub because between my raid schedule and real life I don’t know if it’d be worth it for me because of the queue times, but there is a really big audience for Classic that would. It’s actually pretty surreal how popular it has made WoW again. BFA didn’t do what Classic has for the game, not even on its launch.
it brought back a bunch of people who have been stealing their way to victory on private servers. a lot of them even say on the classic forums that classic is essentially trash and they’re going back to them. they’re also the same people who think classic should be like half the sub cost of retail. when retail even when it was vanilla was $15 month to month. it’s not exactly like the best of our players that are back now tbh.
I don’t think that’s any sort of majority. For me, almost everyone I had ever raided with in past guilds have come back for Classic. My friends list has more people online now than almost ever before. Even my current guild that was a Vanilla guild on Illidan has had a crapload of their original members come back just for Classic. There’s a lot more than just private server players (which are undoubtedly a huge portion, but I haven’t hard of many going back to private servers?)
i am on the classic forums all the time. there’s not nearly as much movement on it as there is on GD for retail. give me a minute and i’ll go see if i can find it.
What do you mean not as much movement? The Classic forum is pretty objectively a more active forum than the GD forum (on every day except the typical GD Sunday, which is active for all the wrong reasons lol) currently?
I don’t doubt that there are some people that want to go back to private servers. There’s always outliers. I just don’t think that it’s any noticeable majority.
unless it’s just a matter of the same people posting the same crap in the same threads on the classic forums there’s way more movement/threads in GD. i say this because i refresh the pages for both 3984573948573495 times a day and it’s the same threads for classic all the time. but a thread i was in an hour ago will be way down on the list. so with retail stuff i want to continue to read i just leave a window open. don’t have to do that for classic. anyway, that’s just my perception as someone who spends a lot of time on both.

At the moment there’s more movement on classic.
And there are private server people disgruntled with Classic, but that’s because private servers were massively overtuned and that’s what they got used to. That being said private servers had other bugs that allowed for frontstabbing abuse and /sit abuse, so it’s not like private server communities were looking for a pure experience.
This version has items that inscriptionists make that give bonuses to earned reputation, and when combined with Darkmoon fair bonuses, and other world bonuses are actually better than any reputation item that’s in classic.
I know these items exist, because this character is an inscriptionist.
i’ve been thinking about making a toon on grobbulus. i’m afraid of the crap community from pvp servers though. idk if it would be less so cuz it’s rppvp? people talk so much about the real “classic experience.” the thing is though every server i’ve tried so far has had a crappy community. even the rp server. i had to turn off /2 completely on all the servers because i was spending more time reporting people than doing what i needed to do in town. then i’d reroll on a different server. honestly i’d be perfectly happy getting to 60 and raiding on classic but the community is just so terrible on all the servers i’ve been on. retails community isn’t that bad. or it doesn’t seem so because my toons are on moonguard alliance and sisters of elune horde (normal rp realms). it really just upsets me because i’d really love to play and no life classic with my bff. and it’s not like you can escape it by being out questing because people talk in chat all the time saying awful things.
The community who talks over /1 and /2 are pretty bad. Trump, racist and sexist remarks and whatever else. But the community you meet on the road to complete quests are pretty nice. So if you and someone else are waiting for a mob to spawn people will sometimes invite you to groups and just chat for 5 minutes while waiting. Just the chatting in general when you group up on quests to while away the time. These people don’t usually talk on /1 and /2 … because it always gets pretty nasty on there
That’s a good one.
Even with the time gating, retail is more efficient than classic by FAR. Plus, the content has some actual challenge to it and isn’t boring and mundane while you spam 1 button over and over.
As much as i hate the rep/ap grind in retail (because I’d rather just play the difficult raid/ m+ content), it was SO MUCH WORSE back in vanilla.
Precisely why, as much as i loved wow compared to everquest, i want nothing to do with classic.
i wish i knew if reporting people did any good. it does in retail. it’s especially disconcerting being on BB and seeing graphically sexual things as names and in chat. and illicit substance references in chat. people will talk politics and that doesn’t really bother me. but that other stuff? wow is a kids game. it’s rated t for teen. it’s not supposed to be this way. i’d get a forum vacation for a good while if i told you the things that i reported on there. just that one server, alliance side.
Maybe an RP server would be better but the problem is people just hopped on RPPVP realms at launch to bypass the queues.
But from what people have posted Grobbulus seems nice. I was on Whitemane the past couple of days (got toons on Faerlina, Whitemane, Fairbanks … and I think Thunderfury) and chat was definitely not nice on there.
Actually I think Faerlina has been pretty okay in comparison … but that’s mostly because there’s a lot of anti Asmon sentiments in general chat and when people are talking about Asmon they’re not talking about … other stupid stuff
i’ll see what my bff wants to do once she wakes up. she lives on the other side of the world from me. lol. i had told her grobbulus and if it’s decent i think that’s what we’ll do. whatever it is though we’ve decided to stop changing servers so much. so whatever this is is what we’re leveling to 60. at least at first.
