People burn through content in retail and then complain nothing to do. If blizzard makes things take longer organically then you have people complaining about ‘they are too scared’ to play their alts.
Do what at your own pace? Meander through a bunch of meaningless fetch quests? Walk across the world connecting the dots of a pointless quest line that you’ll never finish because you don’t have the gear for 20-man ZG? Die in Tarren Mill?
It’s funny that everyone universally had the same issues with retail, with complaint threads being spammed on the daily… And now, if it’s somehow connected to Classic doing x better. Then the GD forgets about the retail issues altogether.
The difference is what those things are needed for though.
If the Ony attunement was gated behind multiple weeks of checkstops the game would be unplayable.
Nothing like that exists in BFA.
Its all for auxiliary content or story driven stuff, and it was done because that type of content usually gets consumed in one day then never brought up again.
I know you personally would rather burn through an entire 40k worth of rep in 1 day, but it is not good habit for anyone, and certainly not good for the game world.
Even with the gating though, 90 percent of the topics gated are still easier and less time consuming than Classic.
If there was no gating, it would be a matter of hours for most players.
They would have to completely redesign the purpose of these things, and that would just leave those who couldn’t play often behind a wall they could likely never climb.
i don’t know why people want to grind for 12 hours in one day to do something instead of a week or two of doing a little bit. grinding like that isn’t healthy and then you’d have to spend 12 hours a day for however many alts you have. and you would complain about burn out. instead of spending an hour or two on 6 alts and getting things done in retail.
Making people wait to be able to do the content is not a fix for “nothing to do”
To be honest they fixed “nothing to do” part with stuff like RBGs, Arena, M+ over the years.
But even that they then took it and started using it for E sports instead of just general fun for the average wow population.
They made m+ unfun by doing things like “not being able to delete keys” “nerfing cannons” “un balanced affixes that werent designed for BFA dungeons or are just too hard and tedious for average players”
In your eyes it isn’t. But for the developers it may be, when they remove anything from keeping you to come back they lose $$ and sustainability as a game. I’m not saying what they did was perfect… but let’s be honest, one way or another they’ll try to slow players down. And it wasn’t intended as a fix… it just isn’t an easy feat constantly developing content so they come up with ways to slow you down.
