Classic vs Retail. Retail is a superior game but fails in key areas

Need rep in classic? Ok grind out the mobs at your own pace and get the rep in a day or in a week.

Need rep in retail? Can only get it as fast as blizz wants you to, log on everyday and do 15 mins of quests.

Onyxia attunement in classic? Can do it at your own pace.

Eternal palace questline in nazjatar? Gated by follower rep which is time gated by dailies.

Don’t even get me started on the AP grind.

BFA is a good game. It could be fun but blizzard is hellbent on making it unfun by few stupid systems and decisions.

One to 60 at your own pace until you die…

People burn through content in retail and then complain nothing to do. If blizzard makes things take longer organically then you have people complaining about ‘they are too scared’ to play their alts.

They are changing this. They realized this was an issue, especially for Horde players.

Why is it more of an issue for horde players. It only took 3 days to begin with, if I am thinking of the changes to the war campaign.

Do what at your own pace? Meander through a bunch of meaningless fetch quests? Walk across the world connecting the dots of a pointless quest line that you’ll never finish because you don’t have the gear for 20-man ZG? Die in Tarren Mill?

It was something about the way the War Campaign played on Horde side.

Either way, they are eliminating it with the next patch on Tuesday.

If you’re so up on Classic and how that system works, just stay there and forget about retail altogether, either way we win!

It’s funny that everyone universally had the same issues with retail, with complaint threads being spammed on the daily… And now, if it’s somehow connected to Classic doing x better. Then the GD forgets about the retail issues altogether.

The difference is what those things are needed for though.

If the Ony attunement was gated behind multiple weeks of checkstops the game would be unplayable.

Nothing like that exists in BFA.
Its all for auxiliary content or story driven stuff, and it was done because that type of content usually gets consumed in one day then never brought up again.

I know you personally would rather burn through an entire 40k worth of rep in 1 day, but it is not good habit for anyone, and certainly not good for the game world.

Even with the gating though, 90 percent of the topics gated are still easier and less time consuming than Classic.
If there was no gating, it would be a matter of hours for most players.

They would have to completely redesign the purpose of these things, and that would just leave those who couldn’t play often behind a wall they could likely never climb.

I don’t know I didn’t see a difference between the two of them. Maybe I forgot soemthing.

Cool… so pacing.
I guess it wasn’t after 15 years of people complaining that they ate up the content - had nothing to do after.

i don’t know why people want to grind for 12 hours in one day to do something instead of a week or two of doing a little bit. grinding like that isn’t healthy and then you’d have to spend 12 hours a day for however many alts you have. and you would complain about burn out. instead of spending an hour or two on 6 alts and getting things done in retail.

Making people wait to be able to do the content is not a fix for “nothing to do”

To be honest they fixed “nothing to do” part with stuff like RBGs, Arena, M+ over the years.

But even that they then took it and started using it for E sports instead of just general fun for the average wow population.

They made m+ unfun by doing things like “not being able to delete keys” “nerfing cannons” “un balanced affixes that werent designed for BFA dungeons or are just too hard and tedious for average players”

Some people dont like blue balls. Thats why.

could have been a good game.
They decided to go the other route.
pain.

Because they need ammunition for their endless “retail bad! classic good!” threads.

Classic was good for its time. Its not good now.

You failed to see the point of this thread.

In your eyes it isn’t. But for the developers it may be, when they remove anything from keeping you to come back they lose $$ and sustainability as a game. I’m not saying what they did was perfect… but let’s be honest, one way or another they’ll try to slow players down. And it wasn’t intended as a fix… it just isn’t an easy feat constantly developing content so they come up with ways to slow you down.

I’m so sick and tired of the live version of the game being called ‘retail’

if you could perma change 5 things to go into the next expansion that would exist for the entirety of the expansion what would you change?
