I don’t forsee that being the case. They would have to force everyone to use their battle tags to only have 1 avatar for everyone. No, it’s much more likely they’d let us use our characters on said classic forums and then when Classic drops, you’ll only be allowed to post on classic characters there.

Why? Every other blizz forum uses their btags. Doesn’t even have to be our btags. Let us pick one unique forum name that is attached to every avatar on our account.

You are going to make me run off the Diablo forums and check… I don’t think my btag is in use there. Now I am less certain of that.

Because it wouldn’t be same as Vanilla. We didn’t have btags in vanilla. Must have characters not btags.
Vanilla didn’t have bnet but Classic will. Kinda throws a monkey wrench in all that.

Maybe, but they could have just forced us all to use btags here on these forums and they didn’t. I assume it has something to do with WoW being an MMO and you log into a character and enter the game world. Unlike Diablo, where you select a character, then join/create a game from the menu.

I agree, the characters in Diablo are much like the - server affix for cross realm in WoW. When I group with any of my BTag friends in Diablo I don’t even see their character names.
For the forums? Lol. Guess what you might be really disappointed because this may be the only forum we get. They cut CS. Doesn’t sound like they want a whole new forum with a bunch of sub sections to moderate and maintain. Especially since everyone is predicting this massive drop off. Forums are used by a very small percentage of any playerbase as is. Think they will invest in forums/moderation for a bunch of alt brigading to compare epeen? Lol. This forum isn’t active enough to justify that. I could be wrong but my guess is they are going low ball with classic forums.
Also the issue of alt brigading to influence discussions is a bigger hindrance to communication and forum community than Vanilla feels. This crap has been going on since Vanilla. If blizz is serious about communication getting better. Hindering the alt brigade trolls is a step in the right direction. Might even get more players to participate on the forums. Instead of the forums being viewed as a troll cess pit and everyone screaming how bad blizz is at communication let’s clean it up.
Not allowing multiple avatars is the first step to better communication.

You aren’t wrong about this, but as I stated in my previous post, they could have done that already with this forum if that’s what the goal was. I find it highly likely because our characters are the main interface with the game, and we can’t constantly enter and leave “games” our characters are used on the forum because that’s how everyone in game in WoW sees us.
If you went to a server forum and saw nothing but a bunch of btags, you wouldn’t know who 99% of those people are if you saw them in game and vice versa.
Then we should have pages rather than endless scrolling, because the latter was not in vanilla.

Simple. Effective. Changes nothing except for those playing the alt brigade game or trolling. Sure people with multiple bnet accounts can still be a nuisance but once classic goes live I’m betting the “paid sub to post” comes back to the classic forums. I think GD and all wow forums should have one forum name to be known by. There’s a community here too. It’s just hiding and being suppressed by the alt brigade.
