No they are giving transfer to get people to leave over populated servers not transfers to go to them.
They are giving Classic what retail got in the past (Free server transfers from high populated to low populated ) .

The thing is I am not claiming transfers will be freely handed out. I’d wager almost certainly they will never be given out to retail players. My opinion is that they ought to be, that’s all (I think I stated this at least two times).
… And must you really resort to childish insults?
Thanks for pointing that out to me. Somehow I overlooked that fact. Major brain fart.
Can’t really tell which has more players if you’re basing it solely on que timers. Retail has like 8x the amount of realms as classic, cross realm raiding, and transfers. No one has needed to bar themselves behind a que time for years now
Pretty much up until Mists when they did server mergers , Blizz did do free server transfers like they are doing for Classic and like the ones for Classic they are not to transfer from low populated servers to high populated servers like you think they should do.
Retail free transfers have always been from high populated to low populated . So the idea they would never do server transfers for retail is blown out of the water because it has already been done and it is one of the biggest reasons if not THE biggest reasons there are dead and dying servers.
You’re saying that free transfers from high-populated realms to low-populated ones was the leading cause of realms dying?
When they make to many servers and a not enough people transfer to them then yes.
If they would of slowed down a little after Wrath there would be a good chance of having more populated servers .
I see. Why are you against the idea of players on low-populated realms being given free transfers to higher-populated realms? I understand this is not going to happen. However, I don’t understand why in theory you are against this idea. In my mind it’d help those stranded on presently dead realms while bolstering the number of players on medium-populated realms, too. Or like you said earlier, mergers.
I didn’ say I am against .
I have constantly said they only do transfers from high population servers to low population ones.
They do this so to lessen queue times for getting into the game so people can play . Do you want people to leave a server that even though there might not be many others around but they can still play and just have them sit staring at their screen watching a timer saying they have to wait 30 mins an hour maybe more to play .
Blizzard’s way is to get players to go to the lower population servers so their isn’t a long wait to play but by all means let’s give all these dead server players (and I do feel bad for you all honestly) free transfers to over populated servers so they can spend more time in queue then actually playing.
You can get a good idea assuming Retail and Classic servers hold the same amount of people. If Retail has servers with low populations and Classic has so many that tens of thousands have to wait in line just to log in…that’s an EASY way to see Classic has more players.
I know, you consistently remind me that transfers are from high to low populated realms.
I endorse the idea of low to high populated realm transfers not for queue times, but rather to aid players who are stranded on dead realms. I’m unsure that would cause high queue times in such a scenario, either. Would it, you think?
I think I should clarify that I am not saying that these players on dead realms should hop to full realms. I mean to say realms that are not dead but are lacking in players to even things out.
Problem with you idea is transferring from low population to high population is what will create that queue time.
You are saying let’s move people from low server to high server. What do you think is going to happen ? You think people are going to get in and right away and start playing?
No what will happen is the large population server will now be over populated and all of those people complaining about how they wanted to go to the large population server will start going I want free transfers to lower population servers all because they played less on the high population server due to having problems actually being able to log in.
Best solution would be another round of mergers. They won’t do free low to high transfers because it will kill some of those servers and not everyone wants to leave their chosen server .
Do you think we’ll see mergers in the future? Also, in the case of a merge, what name does the merged realm take?
Who knows it has been done in the past but I wouldn’t count on it because they would rather spend a penny to make a nickle then a dollar to make 1k and crz servers .
They actually have the name of both realms . THey do not become 1 actual realm they become 2 realms that share the same ah , guilds , trade chat ect.
Well, thank you for the enlightening conversation, Waidmann.
No problem and to answer your question about what name the merged realm takes on . It keeps the names of both realms because they are actually 2 separate ones but share things like trade chat , bank , ah guilds .
This toon is on Gilneas ,I have toons on Elune all are in the same guild
What about more mergers… please for the love of god Blizzard
Guilds are stunt because no one wants to go to small servers and the recruiting pool is so small there isn’t a lot of talent available
Can you please strongly consider merging more of the realms?’
Last tier, for example, my guild was the only one to end up past 3/9M. Every other guild stopped there because the first few bosses where jokes
I’m not saying my guild is amazing, but to effectively only have one guild in mythic is just a sad state of affairs
Aren’t you thankful?
You sound like the only child who got a new baby brother. Get over it, it’s here to stay.
You seem pretty anti Classic. Kind of weird you play it? Lol.
Classic now has 35 US realms, they opened three more in the last hour or two. Right now at 8 pm PST, 11 of those realms are listed as “full.” Ten of those realms are listed as “high”, ten at “medium” and one listed as “low” right now.
In case you didn’t know, Blizzard has stated that a medium pop realm has more people than a full realm had back in Vanilla. They substantially increased the population cap along with each realm running multiple layers, which means they are basically running many realms in each one.
One of the new realms is locked because they are keeping it locked for one day to give people a chance to transfer off the overly populated realms before opening it up to everyone. Two of the new realms that just opened today are showing offline, not sure why that is.
My point to all this is the poster you quoted wouldn’t really be delusional by any means.
Edited to add: There are also four oceanic realms. So that gives NA a total of 39 realms. That’s almost double the only 20 you thought Classic had.
