Classic+ Possibilities: A Feat System

So a new poll was release recently and it hints at a “Classic+” and, perhaps, Fresh Classic Era servers.

Not to turn this topic into an outright wishlist for a Classic+ experience, I had this one idea that was derived from the “feat” system in the Dungeons and Dragons game.

On top of the original WoW character creation, I’d love to have the option of tailoring my character’s racial abilities similarly as one would do in the character creation screen of, say, Neverwinter Nights (2002).

In other words, each race would have a “base” racial ability like Hardiness, Will of the Forsaken, Stoneform, or Shadowmeld and then you could choose two options from a list of feats.

That list could include stuff like…

Weapon Specialist: +5 to a chosen weapon.
Professional: +15 to a chosen profession.
Prodigy: +5% to a chosen stat.
Robust: +10 to a chosen resistance.
Popular: +10% to all reputation gains.
Favored Enemy: +5% damage to a chosen enemy type.

That’s a cool idea. It’ll make races more balanced, but it will be at the expense of the value of the race itself.

That’s why I thought the core racials should still stay. Undead would exclusively have Will of the Forsaken and Cannibalize. Orcs would exlusively have Hardiness and Bloodrage.

Some other races might have to be compensated in other ways, I imagine. Humans might have to function like they do in Dungeons and Dragons where they get access to 3 feats where every other race has access to 2. Something like that.

The whole idea could use some work, but it’s something I thought might be interesting.

Wouldn’t there always be a BiS racial?

For anyone wanting to min/max their character, most likely. However, not everyone wants to min/max and so they’re given the option to tailor their characters as they please this way.

I’m honestly amazed you guys trust the current Dev team to make good changes to Classic.

I think the hope is that they’ll read posts like this one and it’ll influence their decision-making. During Legion I remember there were people who pushed for stuff like updating Worgen and Goblins to better reflect the graphics of the modern game. Eventually they did it.

Just throw stuff at the dart board. See what sticks. It couldn’t hurt to try.

I trust them with changes to things like graphics updates and so on but as far as balancing classes or creating new content? Nah bro.

That said hopefully i’m wrong and it works out well for everyone.

Someone said it better than I am able.

Yes. Only roll human. End of story.

Know what’s funny? I see a bunch of Rogues on my server who are Night Elves and Dwarfs and Gnomes.

It’s almost like there’s a lot of people who just don’t care about rolling a BiS race or something. I can’t explain it. Must be that people will play what they want to play regardless of the meta, but then again I might just be seeing things.

Humans are not “meta.” IfnI cared about that, I’d be a dwarf.

Seems contradictory.

It was a joke…

Oh, give me a moment…

There you go, three rofl emojis for free, on me.

I mean, I’m ret for chrissake.

They’re called talents.

I am would love to see new raids after naxx and new bg. They have the land to do it they could even give us a 40 man version of kara. New teir armor same cap as naxx gear but taps into ignored speccs …expand on craftables.

I like this idea and choose for my favored enemy Alliance.

Killing off the combat racials entirely would be a better move.
