Before yall start the BS, no, classic is not dead or dying. Falling off means you peaked and dropped, thats it. The game is still fine and healthy so leave with that.
Im just posting this because looking at the numbers, I’m surprised how quick they dropped since the game literally just came out in august and it’s october.
The initial twitch viewership has returned to normal, the google relevance for wow classic is at about 25% of it’s initial records, youtube viewership has returned to normal, etc. Basically any social media or internet engagement record you can look at for WoW has returned to usual numbers from pre-classic release.
I would be interested to see if SuperData will report on the sub profits over time as their classic subs start to expire since alot of people bought 3 and 6 month subs. Im curious because google trends seems to mirror the initial sub increase. SuperData reported wow subs tripled right? Well google trends reportes that WoW relevancy near tripled during classic release as well. However, now it is showing relevancy to be at 31% of that peak, i.e. returned to pre-classic numbers. If trends is still matching with subs how it did at the start, that basically means wow classic after the subs expire didn’t really do much and isn’t anywhere near the wow killer peopled claimed it to be.

i think this happens with a lot of games, where most of the hype and purchases are in the first week, and then it just drops off and coasts

This was expected by Blizzard, and by most of the player base.
Anyone trying to claim Classic was the second coming the first month it was out was short sighted.
Everyone who wasn’t blinded by nostalgia knew this was going to happen.

That’s why long-term sales numbers are irrelevant, it’s those that are sold around the release date that count.
B-but they said classic will kill retail WoW!?!

Who is this “they” of whom you speak?
Individuals say a lot of things. Classic fans have always been very emotionally invested.
Blizzard never said Classic was going to kill retail wow. I think they were taken by surprise at how many played.

New thing isn’t new anymore, the tourists have left and a strong core remains.
This happens with every retail expansion. Hell, every video game in existence.

Everyone, classic players included, expected this to happen.
Every expansion since Cata has a similar story, and I am sure the next will be no different, nor will (if it’s something they pursue) BC/Wrath servers.
Vanilla, BC, and Wrath were all kind on an anomaly in regards to not falling off.

My realm still has multiple layers, and everywhere you go it’s busy.

Long term sales is actually how most payment over time services look at their data. If you look at blizzards stock presentations long term sales and retention is also how they judge their success and sell their company. Initial sales in a sub model just shows hype based purchases.

Retail killed retail, Classic just capitalized on BFA’s failure.

Can’t be dead when I can literally join mythic keys, pug raids, and every now and then wpvp at Nazjatar

We weren’t talking about subscription payments, but initial comers. That’s a different issue revolving around retention.
The numbers of new purchases rapidly tapers off to the point where it is insignificant compared with either earlier purchases or sub fees.
Prior to BfA, release date sales did not include pre-purchases. They changed it when announcing the BfA first day sales.
The big profit is indeed in subscriptions, but they can’t announce that because it always looks bad now.
Lovin’ that crz, I see.
Without crz, every retail realm would be utterly dead.

Full realms don’t get crz unless you turn on warmode
Many of the full realms still have people doing retail content
You can still do retail content via crz if you decided to play on a dead server for some odd reason

If it’s fallen off, it’s fallen off a lot slower than 8.2 did despite being recycled content

I dont know why anyone is surprised by this. It’s a 14ish year old game with terrible graphics and most people that enjoyed it way back when have jobs and families now.

I’ve never understood this. Why is it impossible to have a job, a family, and play WoW? What kind of decisions did you (not you specifically) make that you’re so strapped for time?
I’m in a US50~ raid team full of 30 year olds. Do people think we’re all unemployed with no families?

It’s not impossible but most people with those things can not dedicate the time needed to play Classic seriously. It’s easier to play retail.

You have got to be kidding. I play on several “full” realms. I rarely see a player from my own realm. They are almost all from other realms.
You can actually tell by looking at their nameplate which realm they are from. Hint: it’s usually not yours.
During wod the capital cities were bustling. Now, to make it look as busy there are 10-20 realms combined.
Seriously. Zul’jin and Area 52 and Stormrage are all crz’d together with many other realms? And there’s only 1 shard in that crz grouping. It’s scary.
Don’t make up stuff.
