Gearing one toon can require a monumental effort, as most bosses have huge loot tables along with incredibly poor amount of items dropped.
On top of that raids require a huge amount of players, so all of that combined makes it incredibly rough to properly gear a toon where gear progression isn’t even defined by “tiers” meaning your alt would most likely need to raid almost every available content (to probably never step into the later raids anyways).
Yeah man you really have to just focus on one character being your main and gear it. Alts are for professions, farming, or twinking. I’m leveling up 6 right now and I would rather have heirlooms than all the stuff people ask for on these boards all the time.
I enjoy leveling and doing 5 man dungeons more than I like doing 40 man raids so alts are my thing. If you don’t enjoy that I guess alts aren’t for you.
I have two pretty well geared characters at this point. I do agree though, it takes a lot of time and effort, I pretty much raided every week for the last 10 months or so to get them where they are.
Remember when MMOs forced you to actually make a choice in what class you roll and what you stick with? Ye me neither.
All jokes aside, classic is pretty “alt friendly” imho. Due to everything being cleared efficiently and the boosting meta its not uncommon for people to run more than 2 toons.
The only thing about Classic that is ‘terrible’ for alts is the lack of Behsten and Slahtz. I love doing all quests available to an alt, but sooner or later (sooner – very sooner) I gotta stop so I don’t level-up. My Level 49 Hunter probably won’t even get the [Woven Ivy Necklace] and [Rune of the Guard Captain] until WoTLK Classic is a thing (if it’s a thing).
Or get this you can go to retail, pay them $60, get a level 50 character and you won’t have to play their game. You are paying them not to play! Amazing how gaming has changed.
I disagree, I’ve found it pretty easy to get into MC pugs and later on BWL pugs to gear up alts pretty fast and efficiently. There are MS>OS +1 raids, soft reserve raids, and GDKPs. All are easy ways to gear an alt. Going into AQ40 and Naxx though might be more of a hurdle to overcome for more than one alt however. Either way, the first two tiers of raids are pretty accessible right now for sure.
That’s only true if your alt is a DPS warrior. Actually probably a warrior period since the class design will always render them completely gear dependent.
Any other class/role can wear a mix of T1/T2/T2.5 and get by just fine, and you don’t absolutely need every BIS item to do well that’s just people’s OCD where not getting that one min-max upgrade drives them crazy over time.
There are so many catch up quests, raids, and gear this late in classic.
Current content gear maybe, unless your guild completely scoffs at running MC or BWL still there should be at least 1 guild run per week. If your main doesn’t need anything and as long as your alt isn’t decked out in greens looking to get hard carried to pick up scraps, bring an alt.
If your guild doesn’t run them, there’s pugs all the time.
If you don’t put in the effort to at least get out of greens before jumping into raids in Classic then you’re not going to have an easier time in Burning Crusade where few people means every player matters more.
More like you have to have good RNG or you can run content every cycle for years & still not have most of what you are looking for from said raid instance. Someone else, on the other hand, can have good RNG & be fully equipped in a handful of runs.
The only reason classic is bad for Alts is the population waning and nobody really wants to pug dungeons anymore. This might be a server issue but last night I did a /who and I was the only one 34-40 in arathi.
Also even with x realm, arathi basin queues weren’t popping.
