Classic Era

Players: could we have an Era for each Classic expansion please?

Blizz: We don’t want to manage multiple different versions of Classic.

Also Blizz: Does HC, SoD, & Anniversary on the same client as Era.

They really just don’t want forever servers, or many of them because it makes absolutely no sense in an MMO and they feel completely obligated to have those characters and servers forever… even if only 10 people are online…

As a business they should never have called them forever servers and given and end date when they first announced “era”

This please and thank you.

Worst take of all time dude… Smart business diversifies its products so that they can have better market penetration and profitability while not ending up a one trick pony that people will eventually drop.

With multiple games they can just play the hype wagon with streamers leading the locust swarms from one game to the next.

You think they shouldn’t have said they’ll keep hosting Classic servers for as long as the company exists?

I think the anniversary servers will be TBC Era Servers.

That’s why we only got 2.

If they announced today that Anniversary was going to persist as TBC Era or clone into a TBC Era, I’d start a character there almost immediately.

As it is, I’m not interested in playing through TBC again just to see it rush away into WotLK and Cata.

Hanging around for wrath

They’re going to do whatever makes them the most money. They had a chance to make BC and Wrath eternal at one point, they intentially chose not to.

The current model of WoW is to stagger different versions of the game so that you stay subscribed. You play SoD for a while, then they announce a fresh HC server, then a new retail expansion etc etc. It’s an endless cycle now. Because they’ve realized, when content stagnates, players get bored and leave. But now, there’s always something coming down the pipe to keep you paying.

Whatever they chose, it’s not going to be at all convenient for the players.

And that’s why after years of diversification, companies like Starbucks and McDonald’s go ahead and slash their menus by 30-45%

It’s time for blizzard to start slashing their menus

It could be done, but it would first require that the Era servers be consolidated into 2-3 servers instead of the connected-battlegroups monstrosity that persists.

Every 2-4 years, a new O M G F R E S H server (or two) is started. When the F R E S H servers complete the lifecycle for each expansion, players who do not wish to proceed into the next expansion could transfer off to the Level 60/70/80 Era servers.

LEVEL 60 ERA
Whitemane (PVP)
Mankirk (PVE)

LEVEL 70 ERA
Sunwell (PVP)
Karazhan (PVE)

LEVEL 80 ERA
Shadowmourne (PVP)
Vala’nyr (PVE)

I’d be really curious to see how many players would like forever servers for each expansion.

It would be cool if Blizzard threw up some polls and actually got real player feedback instead of listening to the incessant whining by vocal minorities.

I would. When classic was first announced this is how I imagined it would roll out.

I feel exactly the same as this.

Well then they might as well throw TBC-era and Wotlk-era into the mix. That’d keep me subbed way longer than anything else right now.

It is fairly hilarious that classic exists as an alternative to retail but there is still a ‘retail classic’ era server and alternative anniversary classic experience. The more things change, ya know?

so far we are doing good with anniversary and the small amount of servers with ppl still playing daily at all lvls. we only need a few servers to plssss tbc servers!
