I consider myself a semi-hardcore pvper. I have ranked from 10-12 on many characters over the last 15+ years on both vanilla, classic, and pservers.
I have no doubt that I have put in more time than many a GM/HWL but since I can’t just shutdown that much of my life for the time required, I’ve never been able to make that last push for the highest rank.
Anything that makes ranking better for people in the same situation as me is fantastic. There is no way to justify a system that negatively affects mental, emotional, and social health of the player.
That being said, I don’t want gear handed to me. If they make honor a currency and require millions of it for a rank 14 weapon or piece of gear, I’d be totally okay with that.

yeah its going to kill PVP as we know it, majority of the people pvping are rankers, and if the ranking system is about to be screwed why would anyone waste there time pvping, i have 3 toons about to hit 60 that i was going to rank when they hit 60, but now i gotta wait 3 months? i can try out the private TBC server i been wanting to play get to 70 and have him geared in 3 months so why would i come back to ERA when they are pushing me towards what i want TBC since they are going to rape ERA for some HC casuals
if you have never gotten R14 then i wouldnt even consider you partially HC you can get R11 with pvping 1 day a week pretty much, spend some time pvping before you ask for the the pvp system to change for you
Tankladin, I’ve seen you in enough BGs to know what a totally useless pile you are as a player. Any ranking you have done has been through getting carried by people better than you, which is about 99.9% of the player pop.
I wouldn’t be surprised if you’re afk in wsg while on the forum here since that’s your MO.

What do you consider hardcore then? Try rank 12+ with 2million+ honor caps and get back to me. 600-700k on era is nothing

You are literally the only person to have ever said this, which confirms my knowledge you have never seen me in pvp, and if you have to hide behind an alt to talk smack because you know you’re not talking any truth!
who has caps that high ill wait? caps havnt been that high since pretbc, just last week our GMs got 416k thats a drop in the bucket you can get that in 2 days easy in AV

I don’t know what is going to come out of this but I’ve been watching and saw the currency rumors which is why I replied to the thread. I also saw how badly the attitudes of players and the fun level of BGs went down once the TBCC pre-patch with currency came out. It was night and day and truly the BGs became just about as fun as being hit with a crowbar over and over again and that continued on and never got better. For the extremely self-obsessed who play for themselves only and only care about gear and no other people that might be fun for them but that’s not me.
Anyway, how I see a potential change to the ranking system is like this:
We have chocolate ice cream already in Retail.
We have chocolate ice cream already in WotLKC.
We have Vanilla ice cream right now in Era but now the store is discontinuing that (from a game that really should not be changed much) and replacing it with chocolate ice cream. Well, some people dislike chocolate ice cream. How does this help those who only came back for Vanilla ice cream?
I like Vanilla ice cream and I don’t hate the people who like chocolate ice cream, but I do have a problem when the devs and some players tell us those who like Vanilla ice cream that we have no choice but to switch to chocolate ice cream and can no longer have Vanilla ice cream. If we don’t want that we have to make homemade ice cream which is highly discouraged and not from the original source.
I have no clue what Era ranking is like. I did rank in the original game, Classic before TBCC and on SoM. It sounds easy in Era but either way has nothing to do with any of my points.

Because the masses have upended the only RP-PvE server.
Did you not play som?? Hordeside was 2million +, sometimes even pushing 2.5 mill.
Northdale was like 900k, 1mill early on. Classic was regularly over a mill weekly. Ranking on era, if that’s what you’re doing, hardly requires a time commitment until 13-14.

As you can see, my assertions were supported by another poster. Tankladin being from the PvE cluster is one of the many “Mankrik-Quality” players we have to deal with on a consistent basis.
He’s already being a bit disingenuous. While many people are rankers, I would say that you have a LARGE base of players who just enjoy PvP despite having already ranked - Tritus, Xero, Dafunc, Midge, Lorm, etc etc. The list is quite long.
If ranking was moved to a honor point system, you would still have premades able to pull down large amounts of honor quickly and get their gear. I’m not sure why people care if consistent, long-term pvpers eventually get the gear since actual skill isn’t a requirement for ranking anyway.
Finally, PvE gearing on era is reasonably fast with minimal time commitment, so Blizzard is probably correct to make some alterations. Why are we gatekeeping PvP gear behind a terribly unhealthy system.
Of course, we could be totally wrong. Maybe they just plan to do a global pool for ranking and change decay. Either way is fine with me.

For all we know they’re changing it back to pre som, so we have more PvE participation.
Nope i played TBC didnt even know SOM was going on till it ended. and still it’s not like that now nor has it been like that since preTBC again i’ll remind you of that because you like to compare other games to ERA, how about you try playing ERA before commenting about it
Since Aggrend said “for the future health” it would seem they are going to fix something rather than just make a simple reversion from pre-som ranking.

such a large base and you couldnt even name 5 people, your large base! is about 15 horde and about 25 ally, so large they could almost get 2 games of WSG going in 9 months whoo hooo, but you forgot to mention Dirtysanchez he shows up and does terrible and then complains the whole match how it’s not his fault and the group needs to carry him
I’m glad that people PVP in Era for fun as they should. There is something about Vanilla PVP. At the same time, if it’s true that fewer WSG games for example are going now after this news that’s not a good sign because if it’s all about fun the news shouldn’t matter.
I was doing premades in TBCC too and while those games were better than the pug ones they ultimately were not as fun as the Classic “ranking” premades and nowhere near as social and I made no friends from that. The biggest part of what I liked about ranking was really getting to know people and making lasting friends that way. To me, if the social part of the game is missing that’s bad. I play for that over all else. If it was just about challenge and skill there are MANY pure PVP games that showcase that better.
I don’t play WoW for the gear. I never have and never will. The gear is only a means to an end. Again, the entire point of MMOs to me is playing with others.
That’s why I’d be ok with an RBG system over a currency system because RBGs still encourage the same sort of teamwork and improving skill as a team (vs a self-centered gear grind), but really I’d prefer things to stay the same because “Vanilla” ranking is unique across all games and so it should stay in the one place where it belongs. There should be a place for niche players to get what they want and they shouldn’t have to move to pservers for it.
For sure, well it’s been on the Naxx patch for two years. If I PVPed with my Mootwo clone (and maybe I will at some point even though I’m taking a break, we’ll see) I’d use a lot of my Naxx gear instead of my rank gear (outside the set bonus). The Naxx gear is just better.
Going back to the food example though. Sure you could say chicken is more healthy than pork bacon, but should pork bacon be totally removed from the menu at the only restaurant still serving it and replaced with chicken bacon because that’s more healthy? I say no.
I think changes more in line with Vanilla would be ok to make ranking “better”. I don’t like changes that mirror WotLK C and Retail. IMO we already have those games and this game shouldn’t change to be exactly like those.
I’ve been very disappointed with Blizzard and do expect to be let down here too. I’m sure they’ve already made up their mind.
