Dude, everyone was on the PTR a couple months ago. That’s why you saw less
I can bet that when this wave of people are done ranking, which will likely be in a few weeks, they will never step foot in a BG again (respectfully so) and this inflated participation will correct itself real quick.
Also this. mind you a lot of EU ppl in that mix but still on EU off hours it was popping off and i got on really late, nothing compared to when it first opened
Which is a pretty dumb argument not gonna lie. People who were done ranking in the old system wouldn’t spend meaningful time in bgs either after they’re done ranking.
People will be ranking on their alts. Activity will remain higher than prepatch
So far I’ve taken 6 guild members who never pvp’d before and now they’re ranking. I’ve got two alts to rank after my main. And some of my guild mates even started ranking their alts at the same time as their main. Pvp isn’t going to be dead in a few months rank 11 for 90g mount will keep the q’s popping.
Why rank so many characters tho when fresh is right around the corner?
I respectfully disagree.
In classic (I’m not going to address Era, although I queued BGs in Era for fun, especially towards the end of the old ranking system), there were many people that after ranking were still queuing for fun, wether it was AB, WSG or AV.
My friend group alone would queue for fun, face other premades or stacks and sync queues, and it was really fun. I also queued both horde and alliance and I recognized many names of players that had ranked in the past, just queuing for fun with a few friends. It wasn’t all the time but it was often enough that it made games fun, and kept people coming. My reasoning, as it was with some of those people, what’s the point of “ranking” if I can’t “use” my new shiny gear in a PVP setting? Sure - I can raid, but that’s what a few hours a week? What’s the point of ranking if you’re just going to raid log lol but that’s always been a persistent problem. The only difference now is that ranking is accessible to all and most people that can work from home and semi-afk in AV. So yes, I absolutely think that a vast majority of the people ranking now are people that didn’t in classic (call it those that were victim of the mafia, gate kept or whatever), and are likely just there to get the gear and never queue a BG again. I honestly can’t possibly imagine, that anyone is that mentally deranged to want to queue AV for fun as it’s being played currently by most people, as it’s been my experience queuing this extremely monotone battleground in recent weeks.
Hence, why I’m advocating for balance, and making other BGs viable for those solo queue ranking, where the honor gains are comparable enough to provide some diversity, and if it’s a question of protecting the solo queue from premades by having separate queues for larger groups, even better. Although as we can see recently in this current AV-premade, I doubt that’ll be effective and players will find ways to circumvent the systems to make the grind easier. I think balance between battlegrounds is healthy, and frankly fun, but that’s just me. Obviously some people, just want to play AV, others just want to do WSG, or AB, just let people play what they want while still being able to achieve their ranking goals.
I admire your mental resilience
This boils down to very simple math. The player base participation in battlegrounds is up. Most everybody is happy with the new system. The only real complaints are coming from butt hurt pre-made control freaks that don’t like not having control over who and who doesn’t attain rank. The same people who ruined battlegrounds to begin with. For you so called I want to have fun crowd, just remember there is no pvp without rankers. So no rankers no fun! And you’re not going to have rankers if wsg/ab, in its current form, are the meta. What you’ll end up with is not enough pvp to even reach 500k.
I ranked my alts in the old system. Since that was a lot of fun. I got to know some awesome people and I could play with my buddies where we’d both be on a new toon. There was no reason not to.
I play for fun mind you. That’s definitely a rare thing from the current rankers. The current ranker group mindset is a solid “NO FUN ALLOWED!!!”.
So saying that ranking several times through what’s going to today seems pretty gross.
I mean if you understand simple math you’ll understand that the majority of players now are not the players that will keep BGs alive after they rank.
They’re not the players that will wait 30 minutes for an AV to play for fun, when the players that were gate kept in classic or era got their precious rank.
I agree that rankers keep things fun and fill BGs, but so does diversity. Might as well just wait for fresh and hope that the player base will be more motivated to PVP.
I don’t think you can overlook the player base that plays the game for fun (IMAGINE)
Not possible if you can farm more honor than “said premade”.
The only thing that had control over anyone was RP
Keep working at it. As I’ve pointed out today already. You were here, You know what the honor totals were per week prior to the patch. Do something to screw with AV honor per hour and pvp is dead. Can’t cut corners with the bracket mafia anymore. You’ll never have a rank 13/14 if the system returns to its old form, because there literally wasn’t enough games per week to even get close.
This is not true lol. The old system you could get r14 with 50 players total or 50,000. This new system is the one that will be dead if you can’t farm 500k in a week due to low population.
It will happen, then the pvp will actually just fade away into nothing. Because let’s be real here… you think blizzard is going to do something? They did their 15 minute napkin math making this new system, that’s enough work on classic for another 5 years to them.
Now I KNOW you weren’t playing before this change.
I know of people PERSONALLY who ranked to 14 in era before this change. They are some of my closer buddies
When the ranking player pool dissappears as was said in post above, you’ll see who the new mafia is.
Blizzard themselves
You really don’t listen or are incapable of reading. At least Alliance side, aside from AV weekend, Honor totals rarely got above 200k. And only got close to 500k on AV weekends. We all know how bracket 13/14 worked by Boosting Brackets.
50 players total with couple hundred boosted to create the bracket 14. Those days are over. So if we go back to the old way of pvp. Yeah nobody is getting 500k except on AV weekend.
My buddy Iamxd hit rank 14 on alliance as well as Nondon
This was before the change.
If the cap was lower than 500 it doesn’t matter. But it WILL matter when the pvp player pool dissappears
That’s the error with this system
And it will only disappear if you have your way in nerfing AV honor gains. I really don’t think some of you have thought this through. Not having any ab or av through the week. With 1 or at most 2 wsg going during the week. Not even going to get into the ballpark.
No I don’t think you have thought this through.
Do you really think people are going to just sit around ranking multiple toons over and over?
Do you think that’s the norm for most players?
Do you think the launch of the wildly anticipated fresh som2 isn’t going to butcher the era playerbase once it’s out?
You aren’t paying attention
