Classic Blizzard Account Email Verification - Action Required

Hello.

I got an email on my bnet email address that is asking me to verify my email for the Classic team? The website that it’s pointing to seems legit and actually goes to blizzard.com. Is this something I should be clicking on?

I definitely wouldn’t click that link. While it might look like it’s going to a legit site, it’s more than likely going to a phishing site.

Can you log into your account? If so, then you know it’s 100% a phish. Not to mention that Blizz doesn’t ever make you “confirm” your account.

Never click on a link within an email.

Blizzard doesn’t separate classic and retail accounts… they are the same account.

Yeah that’s what’s weird. All of the hyperlinks go to Blizzard’s websites though. I even put them in Notepad++ and made them all upper case to confirm the lower case L’s aren’t capital I’s. They aren’t.

The links all go to Blizz’s sites which is what makes it weird.

That sounds phishy, send the email, and header info to hacks@blizzard.com

There is no “Classic” account. There is a World of Warcraft account that gives you access to both the retail and Classic versions of the game.

You actually “verify” your account every time you log into it. The log-in process is the verification process. There is no reason to have to verify it using another method.

Edit:
If you need to check your personal information on your account, go to Account Management using the link at the top of the page. It takes you to https://account.blizzard.com/

Those are easy to fake though. For example http://blizzard.com won’t go there.

Again, Blizz doesn’t ever ask us to confirm our account unless we initiate a ticket with them.

You’re welcome to forward the e-mail with full headers to hacks@blizzard.com for their team to see too.

But yeah, this is absolutely a phish.

It looks like you directly copied the email, but links in a email can by changed by HTML to point to a different link entirely.

If there was one recommendation that I would make, it’s that you consider adding an authenticator to your account to greatly increase your account security:

I know what this is. I just remembered. It’s from me reinstalling and creating a new bnet name for multiplayer in the Warcraft III client.

Sorry for the misleading questions.

FYI though, if you create a bnet name for WC3 online use then this is the email you’ll get lol.

Yea, sorry for the confusion here folks! Titles like Diablo II and Warcraft III still use the Classic version of Battlenet.

But I am super proud of all of you for being as vigilant as you are about phishing. Better safe than sorry

I received this same email, and after confirming that all of the links were in fact legit, I remembered that I created a classic Diablo 2 account yesterday.
