My friend and I have been away from PvP for probably 5 years. We’re wanting to start dipping our toes in again. My friend has actually not subbed to wow for about 5 years so there is a lot to learn.
He is going to be rolling either (or both) a Ret Pally and a Hunter (Surv and BM). I’m not really limited on choices since I have a 120 boost. I’m wanting to play a class or classes that will compliment his choices. Not looking to dominate anything, just a combo that will not be horrible, but will also facilitate our learning the WoW pvp game again.
The classes I’m leaning towards are a Warrior, Rogue, DK, Monk, or Enh Shaman.
With these classes mentioned, what combo’s do you think will work well together?
If you like playing double dps, a friend and I played sub/survival to 1700 mmr pretty casually w/o gear, I don’t know how slands will be, but we did pretty well and had a blast with these comps. I think someone in EU plays sub/surv in high mmr in 2s, but I totally can’t confirm that.
I do think Rogue/Ret or Rogue/Surv would work better in 2s than any of the classes you’re considering. Ret/Warrior/heals would be better in 3s than any of the above combos above (probably tm).
Most importantly, find the classes you like playing a lot and try to find ways to synergize with your buddy, and see what playstyle you guys would be leaning towards (reset heavy, set-up, cleave, etc.).

hunter/warrior/x
dk/surv/x
rogue/surv/x
Rogue is your best choice, and will be good regardless of how the game changes.
However unless your friend enjoys being frustrated, he may want to play something besides Ret/hunter

I have a feeling enhance/arms will compliment hunter will in SL

Years ago we stopped doing 3’s because we had the hardest time finding a 3rd. Not sure we feel like going through that frustration again.
Lock and firemage. Play those classes you mentioned for fun but lock firemage for arena.
double dps 2’s kinda suck unfortunately
esp right now when every other game is a fotm hpal that has 8 different ways of preventing you from playing the game as double dps
you could probably play rogue/surv in 2s or ret/rogue
Rogue/hunter or ret/rogue are ur best picks for 2s. For 3s it’s best to probably play rogue/hunter/disc but still p tough. Ret/rogue works but you’re kinda limited to only being sub
That feel when you play hpal and lose to a lot of double dps and already feel bad about it…
I was just talking to my friend and he is set on Ret or Hunter, or both.
I think I will try a rogue. I’ve honestly never tried one past probably lvl30. I’ve been too hung up on tanking. Are all three Rogue specs good for PvP atm? I know it was Sub all those years ago.
sub has some limited success, assassination is competing for top melee, and outlaw is unfortunately a super joke.
